A page turns....and thank you from Jim Neal

Firstly, I want to again congratulate Senator Hagan on her nomination as the candidate to beat US Senator Dole in the 2008 senatorial race. I have told Kay that she has my full support and encourage you to work hard on her behalf.

To the staff, volunteers and bloggers who made our campaign so vibrant I thank you. We were a lean organization running a 21st century grass roots campaign. We took almost 20% (about 250,000) of the votes cast despite our lack of resources and the fact that nobody in NC had a clue who Jim Neal was 7 months ago. I am very proud of each and every person who volunteered their time and contributed to our campaign.

I've become a fan of this site and the blogosphere in general as a fantastic communications medium: the emergent Fifth Estate. Online activism is the future of politics and social change. I believe that the power of the blogosphere is only at the tip of the iceberg (and that iceberg is melting...) so keep your involvement and your voices in the debate.

Remember that the campaign was never about Jim Neal. It was about you. You are the voices of change. Change is only going to come from the bottom up.

Many of you have emailed me and asked "what's next?" Well, I've got a lot of people to thank and a campaign to wind down. Thereafter I'm taking some time, after 7 months and 35,000 miles on the road and not much sleep and too many pounds shed, to reflect. I don't know what the next chapter in my life will be. I do know, however, it will involve continuing to work for empowering the voiceless many most in need. I have heard them. They have made me a richer person. They still have my ear and I'm not about to walk away from them.

We all have a lot of work to do.

Thank you.

Jim

Jim, thanks for your effort

and the ideas you brought forward in this race, and thanks for helping BlueNC grow in the process. :)

it has been

my honor. Thank you.

Best of luck with whatever you do next.

I know the staff has said you are addicted to the internet, so I hope to see you here often.

All the very best to you Jim!

A huge disappointment that it will not be your crystal clear voice ringing in the halls of the Senate this time. We need your perspective in our representation, that's for sure.

Progressives are the true conservatives.

don't

worry about that. I have a voice as do you.

I intend to use mine in a progressive, proactive way.

Hey Jim... You effected the debate greatly...

You will continue to do so in the near and far future. We are not done yet. There is a Democracy to preserve.

You made a freind in me. Be well Jim.

you have a friend in me Marshall. I'm profoundly sad that you won't continue into the general election.

But, I don't expect you to be a shrinking violet either.

for your kind remarks.

Give Senator Hagan a boost. She's dying to deliver those ruby red slippers to Senator Dole and needs your support to make the handoff.

A pleasure!

It was a pleasure meeting you and supporting you. When (not if) the next time comes, say the word and I will be there.

you've

got a deal.

Stay active and make your voice heard.

Jim, thank you

on a political level, thank you for stepping up to take on
Elizabeth Dole before anyone else would. Thank you for being a progressive voice, and an inspiring speaker.

On a personal level, thank you for listening to my story and supporting me. That's why one of the reasons I supported you. I look forward to hearing from you sometime soon.

I didn't do you any favor by listening to you, though I appreciate your sentiments. You deserved it. And you still do.

Be well.

thank you, Jim we're just getting started

Can you believe this was six months ago -- from Jim's speech at the 2007 Equality NC Conference and Gala:

Thank you for putting yourself out there, Jim. It was an inspiring campaign in so many ways. You have already made a difference here in NC.

Pam... You are really something special... Thank you

for being willing to tackle the issues as they related to Jims candidacy.

If ever I run for public office again (doubtful) I hope someone reminds me to "go get Pam onboard".

Love ya.

Marshall Adame
2014 U.S. Congress Candidate NC-03

Thanks, Marshall, for your contribution

I have been energized by so many good people in our community (on and offline) who are ready, willing and able to publicly stand up for equal rights for all North Carolinians, and that includes LGBT taxpaying citizens. I am heartened by wealth of candidates who came on BlueNC and had no reservations about speaking openly about equality issues.

It has set the bar higher for those who would rather fly under the radar, or not address the issues at all. We are moving forward together.

Pam

you have one helluva powerful platform. It's been my honor. Keep all of the candidates straight in representing the values of equality, opportunity and fair play which everyone in NC deserves.

See you soon.

You're a champion!

Jim- We're both in Chapel Hill. I'd really like to sit down and figure out how we can work together. Let me know if we can have a beer sometime.

I need

a beer!

Thank You

Jim, your campaign moved this state forward through it's direct honesty and progressive values. In the end these virtues win everytime election or not.

Thank you and

I could not agree more.

Best,

jim

Jim,

you and your candidacy have been an inspiration. Thank you not just for running, but for your candor and contributions towards moving the political converstation to issues us average NC'ers see as important. I really liked your style. Hope to see you around as we elect Hagan ... and when we're holding her feet to the fire in 2009. :)

Thanks, but

for heaven's sake get Senator Hagan elected before talking about holding her feet to the fire. That's what Kay is going to be doing to Senator Dole over the next six months.

Help Kay get elected.

You're right.

It will be nice having a Senator who actually knows what's going on in the state she represents.

winning in yet unseen ways

Jim - working on the campaign was a lot of fun for me, personally and life-changing for many of us. Having a chance to work for someone who "gets" the issues that matter really pushed people beyond their comfort level to achieve a lot in a short time on limited means.

I already wrote this here on another thread, but the future belongs to the fearless. You stepped up when no one in this state would take on Elizabeth Dole. You campaigned pretty much around the clock, going to all corners of the state, putting yourself out there without a bunch of handlers and "message controllers" and you got people to show up at events and polls by sheer force of your message and your big heart.

Whatever new abilities you gained by this campaign are yours to keep and nurture. Whatever happens next after you rest up will be enriched by all that happened. I think I can speak for many of your volunteers and bloggy fans in saying, we look forward to the next step.

Email me for when you want some banana bread from your buddy, my son Tai. He insists on baking you some to cheer you up.

My dear

Katherine....tell my bodyguard that I'll take that banana bread ASAP. As you know I've shed more pounds than I had to give up!

xo jim

Yeah, you were looking right peckish

at the barbecue the other day. I've got two words for you: Golden Corral. :)

The food all sorta tastes the same, especially after you get thirds. But hit that place 2-3 times a week and that poor little hybrid will be struggling to carry you over the hills.

LOL

I'm working on it! Will do Steve. Will join you one evening in fact.

Jim Neal, you are amazing

I just want to thank you for inspiring so many people in North Carolina. Please consider running again in the future!

I will

continue to use the voice I have, that you and others across our state have given me. I really believe in you and the good people of our state and our nation.

Right now, I haven't a clue about the future. Way too soon. I need some time to regroup. It's hard to turn the adrenaline off, esp. when there's so much yet to be done.

I'm not going anywhere. I'm not ruling anything out. I do need to get some sleep!

jim

Thank you, Jim!

I was proud to vote for you and do a little blogging for you.

Thanks for speaking out on the important issues.

well....

I can't say we wouldn't have bought TV airtime had we the resources. In the long haul I believe the blogosphere and social networking sites will be the great equalizers.

Echoing others' sentiments

Jim, yours was a truly courageous campaign and race, and I was proud to be a small part of it in the early days of this year. While I'm sad that you won't be the Democratic standard-bearer leading the charge against Liddy Dole, please know that you've been a real inspiration to me and many others.

and

I can't thank you enough for all the tireless efforts you logged on behalf of our campaign. Don't be a stranger.....and stay angry until values like equality, opportunity and fair play apply to every North Carolinian and our nation.

Sucks what you went through.

As a libertarian Republican, a hardcore Ron Paul supporter, and a staffer for B.J. Lawson's Congressional Campaign, I definitely know what it's like to have the Party deck stacked against you. While I consider much of your economic platform to be downright socialist (don't take this as a partisan shot, though, because I consider President Bush's policies to be full of central planning, as well) and, by default, repulsive (although you at least talked about fiscal responsibility), I think the fact you made a pointed effort to call out the Administration's abuses of civil liberties and the ridiculous potentiality of telecom immunity to be laudable. And obviously, I agree with you on the war. (Although I see a "responsible basis" for pullout from Iraq to be a "Get the fuck out right now" approach.)

You have my respect. Stay active, and run for office again. Hopefully next time, you will have an economic platform that a libertarian can appreciate.

one of the

wonders of our democracy is that we can disagree-- and broadly so-- yet still maintain respect for one another.

Thanks for your input.

2010!!

Jim,

I am proud to say that I volunteered to help your campaign. A quarter of a million votes is HUGE!! Your campaign was a historic victory for voices that have not ever been heard!

I think that after serving your fellow North Carolinians the way you always have that you should keep in the back of your mind a run for U.S. Senate in 2010! Senator Burr's number is up and your campaign can build on what you've done these last 7 months.

You've got me and I can count quite a few others who will work to make your campaign victorious in 2010!

Thank you for a well run, honest and historic campaign. I'm proud to don your sticker on my car and I look forward to meeting you in the near future.

Gratefully!
Asa A. Gregory

thanks

Asa. You have been a trooper. And we'll meet one day I'm sure.

Stay tuned.

it's never

too late for you and science/medicine bloggers to make an impact. Get to know Senator Hagan and other candidates. Inform them about what you are doing and your POV.

You have a voice. Use it. Expect, rather than wish, that anyone running for public service has a responsibility to listen to you.

thanks,
