After dark: Republican "campaign mode"

Scott McClellan's unremarkable announcement that the Bush White House was in permanent campaign mode is revealing on two counts. First is the simple fact that the administration has been focused on manipulating public opinion for seven years instead of governing. That should be obvious to anyone who's paying attention, but it bears worth saying.
The second is equally troublesome. From McClellan's comments we must conclude that for Republicans, "campaign mode" means lying to the electorate at every turn.
Republicans are not alone in practicing the dark art of deception, but they are clearly better at it than most Democrats. And with people like Jack Hawke at the helm of Pat McCoal's gubernatorial campaign, and Linda Daves slowly driving her NCGOP train over the cliff, look for more lies than you can count from the Republican playbook this fall. Also look for the mainstream media to give nothing more than lip service in covering the NCGOP's politics of destruction and deception.

The media's role?
After graduating with an MA in journalism in 1980, my appreciation for the mainstream media has plummeted like a rock. I used to believe the MSM had a responsibility to do its best to make sure that citizens had as good an understanding of reality as possible. Clearly, the media have only one responsibility now: to make money for their shareholders.

Just settle for average.
Every program from WUNC to CNN that I've listened to today
has a white house denier...this is NOT our Scotty. Not one of them asked if they were implying that someone held a gun to their Scotty's head and made him write this then go on tour to promote the book.

Yes, it is wicked to rejoice in the misery of others, but the outrage and indignation of the neocons is so wonderfully satisfying that I am cackling with wicked, unmitigated glee~
You are so right, momo. And it has been so weird.
It's like they're all on a wild teevee and radio spam blitz with that one line ... the same line ... all of them!
