After dark

This time tomorrow, the world will look like a whole different place and we'll all be gearing up for the run-offs. All politics all the time makes for crispy critters.

What's up?

I'll put up a prediction thread here

I'd rather be wrong with this crowd than people I don't know.

Robin Hayes lied. Nobody died, but thousands of folks lost their jobs.

aside from that possibly being the coolest thing on the web, I personally don't believe there is enough bubble wrap on the planet to endure the stress of so many in such a short amount of time.

phone calls to support the death penalty moratorium?

I do suggest that folks call whoever wins and Regardless of who wins the NC Governor's races tomorrow in either party, please call each winner and say the following:

Congratulations on your primary win! As a supporter of a moratorium on executions and death penalty reform in North Carolina, I ask that you immediately pardon all of North Carolina's recent exonerees from Death Row and prison and also consider issuing an official moratorium on executions in North Carolina if you win the general election in November.

Very great suggestion

Best idea I've seen in weeks. Thank you for this good suggestion. Maybe you can make it a post tomorrow and we'll give it a bit more visibility. No time like the present to get back to issues.

Ugh

Did you just hit a sore spot. Long story short, the surveyor just finished the deed this morning, and I am still in the same place. Looking like early July, and I missed the bash for NOTHING!

We'll have to have more get togethers.

I don't want to impose on James' hospitality too many times, but I bet we can find lots of places to cause a ruckus around the state.

make it a post?

I will try. I always try to make my posts a reply to someone else so I dont know how to get my posts otherwise,. a luddite but at least I dont lurk, I did figure out how to sign up here. I cant sign up on kos. so i only lurk there.
But the death penalty and in NC a bill to create a commission to plan our health care reform..those are the two issues we want to take our candidates to the mat over.

To make this a "post"

Just click on the option "create content" on the left hand side of your screen, and then click "blog post". Then just type it up! You need a title, you can skip the "teaser", just put the info in the "body", and then click submit. If you don't known which tags to add, one of the front pagers can fix it for you after you post it.

I agree with James, it should be its own post. It's a wonderful idea.

The Weather

looks good. 75-80 and Sunny through most of the state is what I am seeing. What does this mean? Who knows.

As for predictions, I am guessing Obama by 7 in NC and Clinton by 3 in IN. The media then calls this a huge Clinton victory even though the numbers barely budge.

That said, best of luck to all candidates tomorrow, with extra-special luck to those who had a presence here at BlueNC.

Anyone watching the Obama rally in Indianapolis on C-Span?

Signing it up.

I just spent three hours putting up signs for Dan Besse, Jim Neal, and Robin Anderson. I also put up a special sign at one local school where a certain VIP might show up to vote tomorrow.

I'm proud of my candidates and I don't have to hide behind excuses to explain their poor voting records.

:) I actually got my 18 year old to put up all the signs at the

polling place so that I could actually cook a real meal for once. (That doesn't happen too often.)

I bet I know the sign and the VIP, too. Have a good day tomorrow, Robert.

But you should put a photo of the sign up here.

Speaking of Signage

We placed all of our Obama signs over the weekend, but there was a strange dynamic going on.

First, several polling places have moved from schools to vounteer fire depts, where there are zero signs.

Second, most of the school polling locations are forcing the signs out of the traditional locations. I damn near broke my ankle scaling a bank to place a sign at my polling place.

Third, there just aren't many signs out period. In all of Wilkes County, I counted zero signs for Gov, zero for Lt Gov, zero for Senate, zero for NC-05, 3 for Clinton (in private yards), and my ten for Obama, that I had to beg for.

Your guess as to why is as good as mine. In the last primary cycle, I placed at least 100 signs. This time, 10. Maybe the mowing season has screwed things up, I don't know.

Saved me a ton on gas, but signage really makes me feel good, and now, no rush.

We didn't have many signs out until today.

The Obama signs are precious - so many have been stolen that I haven't put out the one I have for the polling place, and I won't until tomorrow morning. We've had Lt. Gov., and US Congress Signs out, and Richard Moore has had a strong presence here. I have seen virtually no Perdue signs, and when our 1st vice chair called the campaign to request them, we couldn't get a response. ::shrug:: Guess we'll give folks lucky rocks instead. :) We had a surprising lack of concern from several campaigns. We're going to surprise them - they think Moore County won't vote Democratic. Guess what? :-D Our early voting numbers show that the unaffiliated voters who voted in the primary asked for Dem. ballots two and a half times as many times as they did the Rep. ballots. That's a first for us. (can I get an amen? or a w00t?)

Thanks to BlueNC connections, I was able to get signs from most of the candidates I know here - thank you to all of you who helped me do that. Thank you too, to the Dellinger campaign for taking care of your own signs, so that we didn't have to go around and put them up. I just wish we had literature for our polling places (hint. there's still time!) I see no evidence of Dalton signs or literature anywhere in this county, even though he was the featured speaker at our 2007 county convention.

Rambling - time to go to bed.

Good night!

For those near Wilkes

there is Obama literature at the Wilkes County HQ. You can pick it up and take it to your county.

Well, that's obviously meant for me

I'm not hiding behind excuses to explain anyone's voting record, but at least I don't have to explain why my candidate embellished endorsements, says one thing on his campaign literature and the opposite in a questionnaire for a newspaper endorsement and can't raise any money despite having been a full-time fundraiser for General Wesley Clark, John Kerry and having helped Erskine Bowles. That's a lot of explaining to do. And....despite all of the problems I have with your candidate, I would still vote for him in November if he were to pull out a miracle tomorrow.

Robert P.'s picture

That's because you know he's right on the issues.

----insert witty remark here----coming soon----

Well....since he sometimes gives two different answers

It is really hard to say if he is right on the issues. I do not believe that we give up in Afghanistan and he does....well...if you believe his Indy questionnaire. He doesn't believe we should give up on Bin Laden if you believe his campaign literature. I'm not sure which Jim Neal to believe! It also makes me wonder if he's going to change his mind on other issues. Will he?

Robert P.'s picture

You candidate's entire campaign has revolved around

hiding on the issues, needing more time, wanting to hear more facts, hearings on Iraq. Jim has been consistent on the war, if there is some language confusion in a questionnaire or pamphlet that is much different than having a candidate who hides behind her warchest to ignore the wishes of those pesky voters.

Long live the aristocracy.

Language confusion?

how about a completely different answer. First he wants to redeploy to afghanistan and then he thinks we need to pack up and come home from
Afghanistan. That's not language confusion.

Your candidate's entire campaign has centered around whining about not getting a debate.

Robert P.'s picture

You say whining, I say sticking up for voters.

You say ducking the voters, I say screwing the voters.

Funny thing about Pittenger website

On the eve of the election, Robert Pittenger's FAQ page on his website has remained blank.

I guess no one is asking him any questions because no one gives a shit about what he has to say.

for the most part...

... progressives do better on the web.

I remember Red State has a fund raising campaign to raise 20-30k for upgrades. These upgrades would have taken about a day and it would have been a cinch to find a progressive coder willing to undertake the project.

Tomorrow

What is everyone doing tomorrow? I plan some phone banking and maybe handing out some literature at the big polling places.

Of course, this is assuming that I can sleep tonight.

By the way, my grandfather, who reads blogs but does not post, asked me to put his prediction here for him:

Obama in NC by 10-12, and Clinton winning Indiana by one point with the possibility of an Obama upset.

Gave out voter guides to my poll greeters so far.

TrueMeckDem on Myers Park Pat

"My opinion of Pat has changed over the years. I used to think he was truly a man of the people but the longer he has been mayor, the less I think of him.

As with most cities, Charlotte has three political parties: Dem, Rep, and Chamber of Commerce. Pat is definitely the puppet of the COC here. What is good for business is good for Charlotte and Pat ... very personable guy, he has gotten a bunch of Dems in these parts to vote for him but I don't trust him."
