Allright,that was amazing

"So, here's how it happened..."

I got a call from our county party chair last night. The Clinton campaign had offered us 10 tickets. Did I want to go? Well, yeah! History in the making and all that. So I called Diane Hamby (after calling around trying to find a sitter on short notice), and she hadn't managed to get tickets so we got her and her campaign manager and an intern and I on the list. Sweet!

Then I spoke with the campaign and made sure I could do video and pics and all...yep.

Diane gave me a ride. She explains on the way that it's a "Conversation with Maya Angelou"!!!!! I didn't know that. I think I actually squealed with delight, and immediately called my girlfriend back home who turned me on to Ms. Angelou years ago.

We get there, and we're on the VIP list. The "lets get you folks out of the sun and then seat you first" list. I get first row, decide the tripod will work out better in aisle second row, and set up.

Some folks who had also taken seats in the first row were asked to move, I think the campaign slipped on having to reserve those seats for a certain contingent that was being flown in....These 'supporters' refused to move for the poor stressed out field director. I was happy he remembered me and let me stay there, with camera, and I helped him to keep more folks from filling those seats they needed (they also made fun of his name! which I totally empathize with). I tried to put it to them that if truly they loved the campaign and wanted the best for it, they should consider doing as they'd been requested to....but it was a no go. Oh well. I understand them not wanting to move, I didn't want to give my spot on the rope to greet Hillary to Diane, but Diane is a candidate and I'm not and that's what I had to do for the party. I had my little pout and got out of the way.

Anyhow...Maya Angelou comes out (after the campaign does this nifty texting to win an intro with Hillary bit) and she sings a line and my heart fills up....my, she is beautiful.

The conversation was terrific, certainly better than that debate :) I'll get the video up as soon as I can. I have to work on what I'm going to say at our convention for Jim Neal tonight....I'll get some pics up though on MySpace and/or Facebook or something....and more when Diane sends me the ones I took with her camera.

...and Sunday I will get to see Sen. Jean Carnahan!!! right at our HQ!!!

Something started with that Straw Poll....that's still got me ramping up and up and up!

Maybe it takes a poet...

I thought it was a really good night for HRC, too. Maybe she should hire Angelou. :)

applying Hillary's own rules to Maya Angelou

Im an Angelou fan and have read many of her books, except for poetry, its not my thing.

But using Clinton rules, Hillary's friendship with Angelou makes her friends with Malcolm X (big Angelou friend), thus with Islam and Black Power. Black power then, according to right wingers = black racism. Thus, Hillary is a racist. Using Clinton rules of association.

(Stephen Colbert was explaining the circle of logic last week on one of his shows).

But its ironic to see Hillary pushing the "weatherman" thing against Obama who was 8 years old at the time... to see Hillary's campaign pushing right wing talking points out to her supporters (is she a Rove sock puppet), to see the ABC debacle where her husband's former employee Stepanopolis tried to tear her opponent down.

To see Hillary say that anyone Obama was responsible for every word that was ever uttered by someone he had even the slightest connection - is just sick sick sick.

I admire Angelou, and she can support anyone she wants, but it won't encourage me to support Hillary Clinton.

And Helms begat Reagan...

Arguably, Ronald Reagan's Helms enabled win in the 1976 NC primary was all the encouragement he needed to try again in 1980, setting the stage for the Reagan Revolution and synergistic escapades like this one...

TrueMeckDem on Myers Park Pat

"My opinion of Pat has changed over the years. I used to think he was truly a man of the people but the longer he has been mayor, the less I think of him.

As with most cities, Charlotte has three political parties: Dem, Rep, and Chamber of Commerce. Pat is definitely the puppet of the COC here. What is good for business is good for Charlotte and Pat ... very personable guy, he has gotten a bunch of Dems in these parts to vote for him but I don't trust him."
