Anguished and Lashing Out
If you read the comments at the Asheville Citizen-Times, you’re already aware that Barack Obama is an Islamic apostate who may be a mooslim, that he’s BFF with terrorists from Hamas to Weather Underground, and that he Hates white people. As a regular participant in the lowly AC-T forums, I’ve come to expect the worst sorts of smear tactics from zealous, frothy-mouthed shut-ins.
This sort of poison is rippling across the internet and talk radio, lapping at the harried shores of truck stops, diners, and dive bars. It’s infecting the subtext of this Presidential contest with racism, xenophobia, and Christian Nationalism.
The people responsible for propagating lies and smears like these aren’t big John McCain supporters either - they’re Republicans staggering about, eyes-wide, incredulous and angry that their movement conservatism failed so mightily under the hand of Bush and Cheney. They liked the “with us or against us” rhetoric. They applauded when Freedom Fries went onto the menu on Capitol Hill. Saddam’s spider hole was a visceral thrill, and hating the Dixie Chicks was an exercise in loyalty and conviction. After years of being at the bottom of the political heap, it was their time to shine.
Now only 20-odd percent of Americans believe George W. is a good President. Over half of those who voted for Bush in 2000 and 2004 are now faced with a terrible reality - They were wrong. Now they’re going to lash out at the presumed Democratic nominee with a cynical, nihilistic fervor. It’s not as though they admire or even like John McCain. He’s the mockery of their last hope that a ‘real’ conservative would step up and prove that they hadn’t married their identities to a failed set of ideas. They are distraught, even grossly impaired. In their anguish they build a mythology steeped in the sense that the world is so out of control that even their most hyperbolic exhortations might just be true.
So. For your reading pleasure, here are a few comments pulled higgledy-piggledy from the darkest corners of the AC-T’s political caverns:
He is a elitist liberal thief who stole his house threw his pastor and white grandmother under the bus when it was convenient and along with his wife hates America and Americans.
his history of associating with Anti-American radicals and marxists is clearly evident and should scare all persons who love America, freedom, and liberty.
By electing the Great Appeaser, we’ve got a chance to march toward WWIII. Obama’s mantra seems to be hurt your friends,(Israel), and trust your enemies.
He was raised “white”! He just gets more mileage out of being “black” and has used that to his advantage to get where he is.
I don’t look forward to this country having a black ruler with Muslim ties. I have seen what happened in Sierra Leone, Uganda and other African countries with black rulers, with the body counts in the millions.
he the ANTICRIST
Barak Oprahamama: Poster Child for Afirmative Action run amouck. He need help to get into Harvard. He needed help to graduate. He thinks there are 57 states in the Union. He thinks Memorial Day is for those who fought and died for our country and he thinks there was a bunch of them at his rally in Las Cruces, NM! What a freakin’ MORON! Worse than that, he thinks WE ARE dumb enough to make him PRESIDENT. We know Blacks are that dumb, just hope & pray Whites aren’t.
If old Hussein should become president,(god forbid) the US will probably go the way of E.Saint Louis if one is smart enough to get my drift.
It was by his own admission that he distanced himself from whites and actively sought out black approval. He worked to seperate from his white heritage. Does this really sound like a uniter to you.
Omaba is a shameless race-monger, a madrassa-taught muslim, a demagogue who rants endlessly about the evils of private enterprise earning profits for their shareholders, a coward who is in the pockets of the vicious mass-murdering islamists’ unlaundered robes.
There’s a taste. You’ll have to wade in for yourself if you want to read more.

Goodness Gordon!
Ya don't have to go all the way over to Asheville to read this crap. Of course, some of the folks who blog at talkingaboutpolitics.com probably *are* from Asheville. I think there's an active ALIPAC chapter there. That ranting twit FCC, whose computer screen must be flecked with repeated applications of spittle, posts regularly on the Dome, but apparently resides in Asheville. Buncha nuts, as Barney Fife would say.
need to start something
Remember how John Edwards said way back in the primary that if someone was voting for him because they wouldn't vote for a woman or a black man, then he didn't want their vote? And remember how Hillary made the same pledge (oh wait, she didn't..huh, funny that).
Well I think we need to start making some noise to get McCain to make the same pledge. See if we can actually get him to denounce these racists and take a stand. Will Mr. Straight-talk and Mr. Honorable and Mr. Best-buds with John Hagee also say he doesn't want votes from anyone who won't vote for Obama simply because of the color of his skin?
Careful what we ask for--
Yes. I think that McCain would readily make such a statement, and believe it too.
We should remember that not all our opponents are demons. (Sure, the totally crackers folks making the statements that Gordon has quoted are pure dark side.) McCain, though, genuinely is not a bad man, just terribly misguided on many critical policy matters.
We shouldn't make the mistake of attacking McCain as a person. Keep it on policy, where he shows up as on the wrong side of too many things that a majority of the voters know are wrong (Iraq, economy, etc.).
On the other hand, I don't see any downside to occasionally showing up to broader public view the vitriol contained in the racist idiocies appearing on the net. Most people will be embarassed by that stuff and not want to be perceived as associated with it.

It is an example of Republican desperation Gordon
The Republicans are in a panick. They are desperate.
The Republian Party "Ethics" bar is set very low in accordance with the example our President has set for them.
Hold on.... I have a feeling we have not seen just how low the Republican Party can go.
Even treatment
I believe Obama can jump start the process by saying that he doesn't want the vote of anyone who would vote for him just because he's (to be accurate) half black.
HA! I say "HA" but . . .
It's not more accurate to say Obama is "half black," since the term "black" doesn't actually denote a danged breed any more than "white" does. We aren't talking Beagles or Bassets here. The term "black" applied to human beings is socio-cultural, not scientific.
At least we've moved beyond octoroon, quadroon and mulatto, but it still amazes me that people seem to think "black" is something that can be halved, quartered or chopped into eighths, etc . . .
You always manage to articulate what needs to be said.

One Drop
If I recall correctly, Louisiana didn't overturn its "one drop" rule (actually it was a law) about race classification until the seventies.

Half Kenyan. All PC now? Now you need to go tell everyone else who calls him "black" without modifiers of any kind. As in "Obama could be our first black President". Swooning optional. Meanwhile pastor Wright and his ilk keep ranting about "white people". As in "typical white person". Oh wait. That was Obama.
Using a standard tactic, by your digression, you ignore the point of the post which is that a lot of people are voting for Obama based solely on ethnicity (and bragging about it too).
And a lot of people
will not vote for him because of his ethnicity. They might say it's because of this or that, but (for many) those are just handy excuses to conceal their real reason.
There are many reasons why I did (and will again) vote for Obama. And yes, the fact that he's black is on that list, although it's nowhere near the top. All those other things aside, just his affinity for Constitutional Law would be enough for me, especially after the excesses of the current administration.
Oh Poor Locomotive Breath!
No, you missed it. BOY did your bangs go a-flyin' up with that one -- on two counts. WHOOOOSH~
First I thought your point about voting based on ethnicity was a good one. I laughed, ("HA!") because I thought "touche~" (I guess I should have said "Touche"), but SECOND, you missed the point about the use of the term "black. TOTALLY missed it. WHOOOSH~
NO, "half-Kenyan" isn't "PC." I wasn't arguing for "PC" ya dimwit.
"BLACK" with no modifiers is more accurate if "accurate" is taken to mean at least consistent with the way white folks in this country have traditionally regarded/classified people of African ancestry. The point I was making, which I would have THOUGHT you would agree with (if you had been able to comprehend it) is that calling someone "half-black," or "half-Kenyan" doesn't make sense and just shows you up for being another idiot who entertains foolish, outdated assumptions about what makes a person black or white.
HINT: it has little to do with the person's "pedigree" and everything to do with how the person is perceived.
Good luck keeping up~
And not just from the other side of the political spectrum.
A friend recently sent me a repeatedly forwarded email listing a string of out-of-context quotes from a specific presidential candidate's books. It was the kind of email you'd expect to get from your crazy tinfoil-wearing cousin Dale who still keeps two years worth of food and sterno cans in his bomb shelter.
The trouble was, it seems to have originated from the email address of someone on the D side of the political divide. Made me nauseous. I'm afraid I did a little lashing out of my own in return. :-/

Both sad and delusional
Everybody knows you need at least eight years-worth of foodstuffs and potable water if you want to survive in the post-apocalyptic New World. First there's the local law enforcement gone bad, then the Warlords will rule for a while, followed by the CHUDs, etc. You don't even want to think about emerging until well after the Feral Housepet Rampage is over. ;O
lol!! ok. What's a CHUD?
Do I want to know? >:&

You don't really
want to know--but I will tell you anyway.
We long-time science fiction fans will remember the "classic" film C.H.U.D. (Cannabalistic Humanoid Underground Dwellers).
Today, most CHUD are found blogging on certain right-wing websites.

PS: I did not actually WATCH this film, after reading the explanation for its acronym...
argh. You're right. I didn't. :)
And right-wing websites are way too scary for me, too. ;)

Yeah right, Dan ;)
Busted by the geek detecting squad. :)
Hey!
Go ahead, call me a geek if you must. (I prefer "wonk", thank you.) But at least allow me to be a geek with some taste. (No pun intended...)
I will admit to watching the original "Alien". Even its sequels. But "CHUD"? No, sir. Just no. Not in the original release, and I have never noticed it during Insomniac Time on late-night obscure cable channels.
The only fleeting temptation came from wondering whether a movie with such a classic self-parodying title might be as wonderfully bad as an "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes". But doubtful.
Was I wrong? Admit it. You can tell us, can't you?

Worst Sci Fi ever
I went to the theater to see the North American release of "The Cars That Eat People"
A quote from the movie:
"So that's the end of my story. Incredible, huh? A whole town living off car crashes. My brother George is dead and buried in Paris, but I can drive again. You win some, you lose some, right?. I'll tell you one thing though, I'm getting the first plane out of this crazy country. It's goodbye Australia. Brooklyn, here I come."

Attack of the Killer Tomatoes was just hilarious.
I've watched and read more pulp than I should ever admit.

Use Snopes
This email has been thoroughly investigated and debunked by Snopes.com
http://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=snopes+obama+email+q...
(it's at the top of the Google page I linked here - Linking directly to snopes articles doesnt' work too well for some reason)
Anyway - debunking is key - that and mercilessly mocking and then tying the Republican Presidential candidate to this kind of gutter politics.
Thank you, Gordon.
You're wonderful. That link is going out today.
