North Carolina Republicans pull anti-Obama ad

North Carolina's Republican Party on Thursday withdrew an advertisement critical of Democrat Barack Obama's links to a controversial preacher, Republican John McCain's campaign said.

McCain senior adviser Charlie Black said he had been informed by the Republican National Committee's representative in North Carolina, that the state party had agreed to withdraw the ad.

McCain, the Republicans' presumptive presidential nominee, had appealed to the state party to withdraw the ad, saying he wanted to run a respectful campaign.

Obama has come under fire for attending a Chicago church for two decades where the Rev. Jeremiah Wright was pastor. Wright has drawn criticism for statements including saying the U.S. government spread the AIDS virus to black Americans. He has since retired.

The 30-second ad in question attacked Democratic North Carolina gubernatorial candidates Beverly Perdue and Richard Moore for their endorsements of Obama, referring to the Illinois senator's "judgment" in supporting Wright and calling him "too extreme for North Carolina."

The whole point of this ad was to help Clinton. They desperately want her to be the nominee.

Money that can't be used for GOTV or ads that will sell their candidates. Stinks that Linda Daves has such poor leadership skills. Well.....stinks for them. Not us.

Robin Hayes lied. Nobody died, but thousands of folks lost their jobs.

No matter that patriotism is too often the refuge of scoundrels. Dissent, rebellion, and all-around hell-raising remain the true duty of patriots.

Liddy Dole - this is her response:

Dole said in an interview she didn't want to get involved.

"I am concentrating on getting my work done here in the Senate, and I'm just not going to get into refereeing a third party political ad that has nothing to do with my race," she said.

Also, WRAL said it wouldn't run it:

State GOP spokesman Brent Woodcox said officials still plan to air the ad during evening newscasts Monday. He said the party had not finalized the details on the size of the ad buy.

WRAL-TV in Raleigh posted a message on its Web site that said the station decided not to run the ad but didn't provide details. A station spokesman did not immediately return a message Thursday. WSOC-TV also will not air the ad. Station management said, "Because of its implications of racism, we believe it is inappropriate to air."

Seems like the only time Liddy wants to get involved in North Carolina business is when she stands to personally gain from it.

WRAL just called her adopted party racist and she doesn't haven't thing to say about it? And this is on the same day she voted to make it easier for employers to discriminate against their workers? At least her predecessor was willing to admit his prejudices.

Though, in her defense, I guess the world is changing a bit more quickly than she might have anticipated.

"My opinion of Pat has changed over the years. I used to think he was truly a man of the people but the longer he has been mayor, the less I think of him.

As with most cities, Charlotte has three political parties: Dem, Rep, and Chamber of Commerce. Pat is definitely the puppet of the COC here. What is good for business is good for Charlotte and Pat ... very personable guy, he has gotten a bunch of Dems in these parts to vote for him but I don't trust him."
