ANWR: Here We Go Again

Yes, this article is several years old, but the findings are no less true.

Opening an Alaska wildlife refuge to oil development would only slightly reduce America’s dependence on imports and would lower oil prices by less than 50 cents a barrel, according to an analysis released Tuesday by the Energy Department.

The report, issued by the Energy Information Administration, or EIA, said that if Congress gave the go-ahead to pump oil from Alaska’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, the crude could begin flowing by 2013 and reach a peak of 876,000 barrels a day by 2025.

But even at peak production, the EIA analysis said, the United States would still have to import two-thirds of its oil, as opposed to an expected 70 percent if the refuge’s oil remained off the market.

For those who are math-averse like me, note that two-thirds equals 66%, not far off from the 70% max should we drill in ANWR

Using this math, and realizing that the data has not changed, oil from ANWR would not hit the market until 2018, and would not peak until 2029.

So let's see this for what it is: an attempt to hoodwink the voters into supporting a bad policy at the very time the voters are at their most vulnerable.

Foxx's Energy Plan

One can only hope that the electorate can see that the banshee cry of "ANWR! ANWR! ANWR!" from Virginia Foxx and those like her, offers NO RELIEF, as this article points out.
What we know is this:
We must invest in alternative fuel sources
Congress must hold oil companies responsible for price gouging

Virginia Foxx:
Voted NO on tax incentives for renewable energy
Voted No on investing in homegrown biofuel
Voted NO on criminalizing oil cartels like OPEC
Voted NO on removing oil & gas exploration subsidies
Voted NO on keeping moratorium on drilling for oil offshore
Voted YES on authorizing construction of new oil refineries
Rated 0% by the Campaign for America's Future, indicating opposition to energy independence.

ANWR is not the relief the country needs, relief will come when we elect candidates like Roy Carter. Roy understands the need for long term investment in alternative energy research. Roy understands the needs to respect the environment while seeking to free the United States from its dependence on foreign oil. Roy knows that strengthening our economy and the value of the dollar is truly the best way to lower gas prices.

These are real solutions. They just won't be entertained as long as the pockets of Foxx, Bush, Cheney and those like them.
