2nd District

I'm a delegate to the 2nd District, hope to see some other BlueNC'ers in Sanford.

Glad to see you around

I miss our little box on the right (I know there's a drop-down on the left) that tells us who is on. I tend to worry when folks are away too long. Enjoy the convention....(and the spring weather).

Going To the 11th As A Delegate

With my video camera...

My First Post and then some…

Hello everyone. My name is Zeb Smathers, and after some coaxing by several BlueNCers, I have decided to jump into the fray. I am the son of Pat Smathers, who as you know is running for lieutenant governor in 2008. Obviously, I have to be careful what I say, but I intend to post when I can. Though I hope to provide people with campaign information, I will do so without acting like a hired gun. I sincerely want to get involved and more importantly listen to everyone as we debate the future of our state, county, and world.

This Saturday I will be attending and speaking on Dad’s behalf at the 11th District Convention in Canton, and I would love to meet any BlueNC members in attendance. Dad on the other hand will be speaking at the 7th District Convention in Wilmington. Please go up to him, and tell him I sent you. I have to keep giving him a reason why I am surfing the internet so much at work. Dad is also holding a Meet and Greet tonight in Orange County at the Carrboro Town Hall from 6:00-7:30, and he would love for anyone interested to come out. The entire focus of our campaign, from message to fundraising, revolves around the idea of not only getting out and meeting local people, but listening to what they have to say.

Ha-ha…I know the length of this post is breaking some blog length rules, but I hope you understand. I am excited to be part of this group, and I hope to see y’all out on the campaign trail…

See you tonight!

Why be careful what you say?

It is your job to embarrass your parents. As an adult I still have a blast sending my mother's mortification meter off the chart. :)

Welcome to BlueNC.

Robin Hayes lied. Nobody died, but thousands of folks lost their jobs.

Gordon Smith's picture

Zeb!

I'll be in Canton as well. Let's be sure to connect. I'd love to interview your Dad for BlueNC and Scrutiny Hooligans.

I'll be the guy with the video camera and the funny little smirk on my face.

Chapel Hill and Canton

Anglico I am sorry to say I will not be in Chapel Hill tonight, but Mom and Dad are looking forward to meeting and talking with you. Part of our strategy is for me to go to places across the state and speak where Dad can't get to. We are hoping the only thing better than one Smathers is two Smathers. So I have been called into duty at the 11th District Meeting. It also helps the convention is being held at my old high school. Always great to be home...

Screwy...Dad will be speaking at the 7th District Meeting, but I hope we can work something out when he gets back to the mountains. It has been fun explaining to him how YouTube works, but we are making progress. Haha...

Blue South's picture

I was there

Anglico and I were both there.

Let me reiterate for everyone out there. I want Pat Smathers to be our next Lt Gov and I would like him to be running for Governor in 8 years. Im very impressed by him, and I think he has a great chance not just in the primary, but also in the general.

Draft Brad Miller-- NC Sen ActBlue

Being careful

Haha...Exactly. Because even fathers and sons disagree on some things. Law school is also teaching me when to shut up. :)

Well, that's a change

"How/When to Shut Up 101" must be a new course they're teaching. My father and brother never took it apparently. ;) (Either that or they failed.)

Robin Hayes lied. Nobody died, but thousands of folks lost their jobs.

Seriously.

I grew up in a lawyer's house. He knew a lot of things, but keeping his mouth shut? Rarely. Very rarely.

And Helms begat Reagan...

Arguably, Ronald Reagan's Helms enabled win in the 1976 NC primary was all the encouragement he needed to try again in 1980, setting the stage for the Reagan Revolution and synergistic escapades like this one...

TrueMeckDem on Myers Park Pat

"My opinion of Pat has changed over the years. I used to think he was truly a man of the people but the longer he has been mayor, the less I think of him.

As with most cities, Charlotte has three political parties: Dem, Rep, and Chamber of Commerce. Pat is definitely the puppet of the COC here. What is good for business is good for Charlotte and Pat ... very personable guy, he has gotten a bunch of Dems in these parts to vote for him but I don't trust him."
