Best of Luck to All!

It's 5:00 am.. the alarm rings ...

That means candidates, volunteers and campaign staff all across North Carolina are getting up, ready to begin one of the most exciting Primary Election Days in recent history. To all of them, I raise my mug in toast and appreciation for all you have done and will do to further the democratic process.

I hope you have a most wonderful day. Tomorrow, you rest.

I am stumbling off to the polling site

a little bleary-eyed, but excited and happy to be part of all of this. I'll see you all back here some time tonight!

Whoohoo! Good luck to all! Have wonderful day!

A toast from me as well.

Like Blue South and others have commented, finding poll workers is never a terribly easy thing to do so everyone be very very nice and patient and kind to your poll workers. They have a very long day ahead of them.

And now, it's off to vote, then to work. I'll be in and out as the day goes on until about 6pm then I'll be off to the first round of state 4A championships. Clayton v. Millbrook. (Go Comets!) See everyone after the soccer game tonight!

I've got two hour shift, but ended up with one hole.

Sigh, a precinct of thousands and I can't find ten!

At my polling place

Luckily, I roped my fiancee into helping. My precinct has someone for all day except maybe 10:35-10:55 while I go pick up an elderly volunteer who I refused to let walk all the way down here when I was perfectly capable of giving her a ride.

Just hopped in to take care of the dogs

I was out until shortly before 4am putting out signs. I climbed in bed and 15 minutes later John's alarm rings. The next thing I know Emily is shaking me awake at 6:00..."Mom, you're going to miss election day!" Now for me THAT is a nightmare. I jumped out of bed and was completely incoherent. The girls got a huge laugh out of it. Heh...I'll get them! I'm in charge of dinner. hehehehe

Happy election day everybody.

Robin Hayes lied. Nobody died, but thousands of folks lost their jobs.

Back from the polls and back at work...

I spent the early morning putting up signs at the polling places here in Southern Wake - it was great to get to each one, see about 4 republican signs, and then put up the 25 different Democratic candidates I had signs for. It brought home to me how many great candidates we have fielded this cycle.

Another very heart-warming item: at every polling place, there was a line of at least 25-50 people. They are ready to vote!

Well, back to making the daily bread...

My alarm

didn't go off so I was also awakened by kids telling me to hurry up before I miss Election Day! I am SO glad that it's finally here.

I am holding down the fort at Carter HQ all day; I got here right at 630 am and our phones have been ringing off the hook... volunteers are reporting that there were already lines at numerous locations across Forsyth Co. when the polls first opened, a good indication, I think, of unprecedented turn out! One location in Kernersville had already seen a 15% turn out before 8 am. Also-- we were told that 45,000 people voted early in Forsyth.

Fired Up!

Ready to Go!!

No time for rest tomorrow!

That's clean-up day! Rest is Thursday :)

I voted today in southern Durham

I chose to wait until today to see how turnout would be at my precinct (#54, Waterford Village Apartment Homes community building in southern Durham).

At 7:00 AM it was starting to get packed, with the line was out the door. There were plenty of yard signs out in front -- I personally put out a Jim Neal sign. I got in just in time, because around the time I left (7:40), there was literally a traffic jam waiting to get into the complex.

Demographically the precinct is pretty diverse -- there were white soccer mom/dad types, young black voters, senior black voters, people of all colors on their way to work.

Also, there's a big "Voted Today in NC/IN" thread going at the Great Orange Satan:

Also, BlueNC will get a deluge of traffic tonight as I've posted/blogwhored about tonight's joint PHB/BNC liveblog all over the place today. :)

Thanks, Pam!

You got more gumption than I do . . . I voted WAY early just to stay clear of all the hordes!

My ballot

Full gory details here.

I ended up skipping the Senate race, meaning to come back to it, and never did. Oh, well -- I'll be happy with either outcome, so it's just as well.

We're not Democrats, but....

Can Lawson for Congress get a slice of that good luck pie?

No.

Absolutely not.

And Helms begat Reagan...

Arguably, Ronald Reagan's Helms enabled win in the 1976 NC primary was all the encouragement he needed to try again in 1980, setting the stage for the Reagan Revolution and synergistic escapades like this one...

TrueMeckDem on Myers Park Pat

"My opinion of Pat has changed over the years. I used to think he was truly a man of the people but the longer he has been mayor, the less I think of him.

As with most cities, Charlotte has three political parties: Dem, Rep, and Chamber of Commerce. Pat is definitely the puppet of the COC here. What is good for business is good for Charlotte and Pat ... very personable guy, he has gotten a bunch of Dems in these parts to vote for him but I don't trust him."
