TV ads
A good, solid backgrounder. Low risk, generally reassuring, especially older voters who may be attracted to the black and white photographs and the story behind them.
It's an interesting decision to use a narrator instead of the candidate's voice. Narration often creates more flexibility to say things that people would generally not be willing to say about themselves.
I have two main take aways after seeing both candidate's ads:
1. There don't appear to be lot of big differences in emphasis between the two candidates. That's why I'm excited about the forum currently being planned here at BlueNC. We'll be able to ask specific questions that get behind the broad, sweeping issues.
2. It's a good year to be a broadcaster in terms of advertising revenues.
I am way, way, way
over sensitive to this, but.........
1. it was a good ad - length was better than Moore's
2. my favorite thing about the ad was the black and white photo of her parents as a young couple. I have no idea why that gave me warm fuzzies, but it did.
2. Richard Moore concentrates on what he will do as governor while Perdue's hired voice says what she has done in the past.
Here's my beef with Perdue's ad. Moore speaks for himself. Perdue has a man speaking for her. I just hate that. I really, really do. I know. It's just me, and if Moore had used a hired voice the contrast wouldn't be so stark.
Both ads were positive which is very nice.
Man's voice
I didn't notice, which goes to show how oblivious men are. Good point.
I suspect we'll see a whole mess of ads as the campaign heads down the stretch - and I doubt either of these will be "go to" spots for the final weeks. That said, it's interesting to see the two approaches unfolding. They generally reflect my preconceptions about both candidates - which is to say they're pretty honest.
Hey, you're a pundit! It's your job to be over-sensitive!
:)
Yup - the voice is wrong. Sounds like Smuckers Jam.
That said, the message is great. It doesn't even matter so much what the content of the ad is, because what I took away from it was this: "Because one little girl grew up believing..." If Perdue's campaign hammer's that home in her own voice. "Because I grew up believing I could do anything, NC is better off", Moore will have a difficult time overcoming those ads.

Yes....and we should also keep in mind
we're analyzing ads and not the candidates. It's a little safer territory. :)

True
and we have to remember that in May and November, those ads will be what follows a lot of voters into the polling places. Sadly, there are only a relative few of us who will remember the analysis of policies, etc., that happen here and at other places.

This was the main thing I took away from it:
After watching them back to back, I was left saying "Well, Bev sure has done a lot more for North Carolina than Richard." Whether that is true or not I'm not saying, I was just left with that impression.
So, after having watched both ads - point Perdue.

p.s.
It's not that I won't vote for Moore, or that I won't vote for him because of the experience difference. It is that if he expects my vote, then he better give ME the warm fuzzies, either by talking about taking on the system, or by showing me he gets the important issues, or by showing me he's done good things in the past. He starts off in a hole with me because he seems so pro-business at a time when we need a shift towards pro-people.

Edwards
has set the "pro-people" agenda and it is quickly becoming my litmus test for candidates. I'm not sure Moore is any more or less pro-business than Perdue, though. That remains to be seen.

PS I'm not saying candidates need to be "anti-business" at all. I'm not anti-business myself. I just don't want business interests running the show in any way, shape or form.
Ditto on anti-business vs pro-people

....and for the same reason
I give the point to Moore. I want to know what you're going to do for me......not what you've already done or not done. They both have accomplished a lot for NC. Tell me what you're going to do. I honestly hadn't paid any attention to Moore's school construction plan and can tell you I'll be going through it with a fine tooth comb b/c this ad piqued my curiosity.
It will be fun watching these unfold.

Between the two ads
I almost forgot all the things Richard Moore did. That's one of his strengths, executive experience and accomplishments that he doesn't have to share with an entire legislature. I'm surprised they didn't bring up his record (or the lawnmower).

Sam, seriously, that picture has to go.

As for Robert P, I might have a job that puts me in a place to keep a better eye on his Trotskyist activities.

I tried to change it before you made that comment, but it's not letting me!
