Duke Energy CEO advocates climate change?

According to Jim Rogers Duke Energy CEO:

"He said that Duke Energy was the third largest emitter of carbon in the United States and the twelfth in the world -- and if considered an independent nation, Duke Energy would be 41st in the world -- so carbon emissions is a huge issue for him and his firm and wants to turn that around."

Brett Keeter's DWI conviction

Today, I made the trip to the Gaston County Court House to observe the conclusion to Mr. Keeter's DWI arrest.

McHenry deputy field director arrested for driving while impaired.

From The Observer:

McHenry suspends deputy field director after DWI charge

The deputy field director for U.S. Rep. Patrick McHenry, R-N.C., was charged early Sunday with driving while impaired by Gaston County police, his office said Tuesday.

Brett Keeter was suspended for two weeks without pay, McHenry's chief of staff Jon Causey said Wednesday, and he will be required to successfully complete alcohol education classes. He also has been ordered to perform community service with Mothers Against Drunk Driving, Causey said.

"I am disappointed in Brett's actions, which do not adhere to the principles and high standards of our office," Causey said. "I am confident he will learn from this mistake and turn it into a constructive, positive influence in his life going forward."

Keeter's attorney, Craig Collins of Gastonia, declined to provide more details. He said Keeter was released at the scene and that a court appearance is scheduled in October. -- Lisa Zagaroli

More trouble for McHenry and his staff... One question I have (that isn't snarky, anyway ;) )... Aren't you innocent until proven guilty? Shouldn't they wait until he's convicted to punish him? I don't know, I guess its just me.

Patrick Henry's town hall - live blogged

as long as I can stand it, anyway. :)
7:31 nothing
7:32 "We will begin soon" Only text I see in chat is one individual saying Hi Patrick McHenry. The attendee list is hidden, too.

Myrick is still drinking the kool-aid.

Working Assets sent me an email, asking me to communicate to my Senators (Liddy and Ricky :) ) and Representative to request restoration of Habeas Corpus. Sue makes you use a webform for communication via the internet tubes, ya know.
Mission completed. I went to Sue's home page, and then her latest "e-newsletter" and I was appalled to read the following:

DownWithTyranny!: Two Democratic Candidates in N.C.

Howie Klien has explored two of North Carolina's options for Democratic representation in the house, and get the corrupt, tie breaking CAFTA congressmen out of office. I agree with the opinions he's drawn about Kissell and Shuler. I wonder when Bill Glass will begin to attract attention. He's running against Sue Myrick, (R-9th CD), who rode the "Contract with America" to Congress in 1994. It seems to me that their 12 years is up, to deliver an accountable House (HA! I amuse myself....). Thanks to BlueNC for letting me even know that Bill Glass was running against Sue, and that Patrick Henry (he who voted against the Voting Rights Act) has an opponent too.

Will Bush and Gonzales get away with it?

I felt hope reading this article, despite the headline. And there's a North Carolina angle! To summarize the article: A former Vietnam P.O.W. lobbied Congress in 1996 to pass the War Crimes Act which criminalizes abuses of the Geneva Conventions for civilian leadership. I didn't realize that this Act is the only recourse for domestic prosecution of these crimes. Although, I have always dreamed of dubyass and cheney at The Hague...
I've excerpted highlights, but watch the commercial and enjoy the rest of the day at Salon. :) I really enjoy the Ask the Pilot columns at Salon, just in case you need more than one reason to watch the ad.... ;)

And Helms begat Reagan...

Arguably, Ronald Reagan's Helms enabled win in the 1976 NC primary was all the encouragement he needed to try again in 1980, setting the stage for the Reagan Revolution and synergistic escapades like this one...

TrueMeckDem on Myers Park Pat

"My opinion of Pat has changed over the years. I used to think he was truly a man of the people but the longer he has been mayor, the less I think of him.

As with most cities, Charlotte has three political parties: Dem, Rep, and Chamber of Commerce. Pat is definitely the puppet of the COC here. What is good for business is good for Charlotte and Pat ... very personable guy, he has gotten a bunch of Dems in these parts to vote for him but I don't trust him."
