NC-Sen: Dole Slammed on Immigration

[First, a cheap plug for my blog Senate 2008 Guru: Following the Races.]

Earlier this week, the Charlotte Observer slammed Elizabeth Dole on immigration:

Sen. Dole worked hard to help kill a decent immigration reform bill in the U.S. Senate in July. It wasn't perfect, but it provided a practical, intelligent way to secure the border -- and pay for it. It also took the sensible step of providing illegal immigrants a conditional path to legal status. Too bad lawmakers such as Sen. Dole were more interested in shouting "amnesty" and opposing any step toward legal status than they were in helping the folks back home.

Want to know a reason why Elizabeth Dole will lose in 2008:

Their own poll, taken last week, shows Dole with a job approval rating of 64 percent and a disapproval rating of 23 percent.

Republican Culture of Corruption: 2007 So Far

[First, a cheap plug for my blog Senate 2008 Guru: Following the Races.]

Does it seem like there's a new Republican scandal in the news every single week? Well, that may be because there is.

That seems like an awful lot of corruption, scandal, hypocrisy, impropriety, and jail-worthy crime, huh? A lot of corruption. One might say an entire Culture of Corruption.

Will Elizabeth Dole Return Dirty Contributions?

[First, a cheap plug for my blog Senate 2008 Guru: Following the Races.]

Cross-posted at Blue Sunbelt.

Last week, another major Republican donor, Alan Fabian, was indicted on "23 counts of bankruptcy fraud, mail fraud, money laundering, obstruction of justice and perjury." Obviously a big deal. And I do mean a major Republican donor. We're talking over a quarter-million dollars personally contributed to Republican campaign committees and candidates over the last few years.

What does this have to do with Elizabeth Dole? As you may have already guessed, Fabian chipped in to Dole's campaign kitty, $4,600 on May 15, 2007, three months ago today.

This is now dirty money. Will Elizabeth Dole return it (or, better yet, contribute it to charity)? Or will Dole keep this dirty money, look the other way on Fabian's 23 criminal counts, and put this dirty money toward her re-election efforts?

And Helms begat Reagan...

Arguably, Ronald Reagan's Helms enabled win in the 1976 NC primary was all the encouragement he needed to try again in 1980, setting the stage for the Reagan Revolution and synergistic escapades like this one...

TrueMeckDem on Myers Park Pat

"My opinion of Pat has changed over the years. I used to think he was truly a man of the people but the longer he has been mayor, the less I think of him.

As with most cities, Charlotte has three political parties: Dem, Rep, and Chamber of Commerce. Pat is definitely the puppet of the COC here. What is good for business is good for Charlotte and Pat ... very personable guy, he has gotten a bunch of Dems in these parts to vote for him but I don't trust him."
