This morning on a coffee run, I glanced at the cover of the local free right wing rag, and there was a picture of Karl Rove staring at me. Intrigued, I picked up a copy to learn that Turd Blossom himself would be speaking in my area in the glorious NC-11 district on April 28th, and the public is invited! Karl Rove is speaking at around 4 PM.

Driving this morning, I was listening to the radio when I heard the oddest ad. It was an attack ad against Democratic Representative Heath Shuler, for supporting "union bosses" against the will of the people. What was odd, was that it was airing during the Stephanie Miller Show on Air America radio affiliate 880 AM the Revolution. It was an obvious astroturf campaign just from the tone of the ad, and at the end it said it was sponsored by "The Coalition For A Democratic Workplace". Irony is one of the right-wings favorite tools when naming front groups.

Doing a bit of research, I learned that the spokesflack for the group is Todd Harris, who worked in communications for McCain 2000, and for Jeb Bush's re-election campaign in Florida in 2002. His lobbying firm DC Navigators is an all GOP shop.

WASHINGTON - The Democratic Blue Dog Coalition, known for its fiscal conservatism, today named U.S. Rep. Heath Shuler, D-Waynesville, the "Blue Dog of the Week."

Shuler said he's proud to be a member of the Blue Dog caucus."The American people are tired of Congress spending wastefully, borrowing recklessly, and needlessly risking the security of future generations," Shuler said.

Formed in 1995 to represent the center of the House of Representatives, the Blue Dog Coalition currently has 44 members.

Now, I live in Shuler's district, and am really proud of the big lug for beating Charles Taylor(R-Pondscum) but unless my math is fuzzy, there are only 44 members of the coalition. So somebody is going to win this award at least twice this year. I wonder if he gets just this official pronouncement, or if there is a $10 discount coupon to the Red Lobster or some other form of bling.
