North Carolina League of Women Voters support IRV

From Judie Burke, president of the League of Women Voters of NC:

The position adopted unanimously reads "In accordance with the League of Women Voters' position of promoting political responsibility through informed and active participation of citizens in government, the League of Women Voters of North Carolina will support instant runoff voting (IRV) for all statewide and local elections."

Cult of Personality

We need to get back to the politics of ideas and get away from the politics of personalities.

Join DFA at Netroots Nation

What are you doing this summer? I know we're going to be working hard to make sure progressives win in November.

Let's kick it all off together at this year's Netroots Nation convention in Austin, Texas from July 17 to 20, 2008.

There's two ways for you to come and join us in Austin.

One way is to buy your ticket right now and start making your plans to be there for the fun, training and community. Purchase your Netroots Nation ticket today and get the DFA $50 discount.

The other way is to earn a Netroots Nation Scholarship.

Why is Obama considered more progressive?

I had a friend ask me why I considered Obama more progressive than Clinton. I gave him the pat answers but I would be interested to hear from ya'll if you think he is more progressive and why?

Driving out to Denver

Hello all - I am thinking of driving out to Denver for the convention. I got to looking at airfare and what it would cost to rent a car or take taxis everywhere and I think I can do it for $200-$225 a person if three other people want to go.

I have a mini-van so 3-4 people could fit in comfortably. It is 21 driving hours from Charlotte to Denver. I have done it twice, the only real bad part is driving across Kansas but on the bright side you will be able to say you have driven through my home town of Junction City, Ks.

I would leave Charlotte early on the Saturday before the convention and leave Denver on the Friday after.

Any takers?

Delegate selection today in the 9th district

I was very disappointed to hear a list of delegates who had been officially endorsed by the Obama campaign read before the delegates by a campaign worker before we voted today. This was not the list of approved candidates, this was a list of the four candidates who had the endorsement of the campaign.

This really stinks.

Anybody else have something like this happen?

Edwards endorses Obama

Former Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards will endorse Sen. Barack Obama

N.C. death row inmate to go free

When will the madness stop?

Festivus

I am suggesting that Festivus be moved from it's traditional December date to next Wednesday. I say we gather all the candidates, their staff's and their hard core supporters around the flag pole at the old state capitol and have an airing of grievences followed by feats of strengths.

This will clear the air and put us in a better position to kick some ass in November.

If you are not familiar with Festivus, google it.

TrueMeckDem on Myers Park Pat

"My opinion of Pat has changed over the years. I used to think he was truly a man of the people but the longer he has been mayor, the less I think of him.

As with most cities, Charlotte has three political parties: Dem, Rep, and Chamber of Commerce. Pat is definitely the puppet of the COC here. What is good for business is good for Charlotte and Pat ... very personable guy, he has gotten a bunch of Dems in these parts to vote for him but I don't trust him."
