Blogger Bash Weekend!

Happy May Day, which also happens to be the day before Blogger Blash! We're looking forward to seeing you and yours tomorrow here in Chapel Hill.

Also this year, we'll be giving out the first ever BlueNC Bulldog Awards. That's something you won't want to miss.

Date: May 2
Time: 2 to 6 pm
Cost: Five bucks

Last year's Bash was an extravaganza of candidates, and some will be on hand again this year. But mostly this is a chance for North Carolina's blogging and new media communities to come together and get to know one another.

The food will include barbecue, vegetarian lasagna, potato salad and corn bread. Desserts will be pot luck. We'll have sweet tea to drink. If you'd like to bring beer or wine, please do.

The Bash will take place at 451 Lakeshore Lane, Chapel Hill. Hope to see you here.

James

PS You can still RSVP, but feel free to come unannounced. The more the merrier! For those attending the Jefferson-Jackson Dinner, your opening reception starts at 5:30. If you leave here by 5:00 you'll be in great shape.

Book signing?

James - Are you going to have copies of your book available to purchase?

“We are the party of Roosevelt. We are the party of Kennedy. So don't tell me that Democrats won't defend this country. Don't tell me that Democrats won't keep us safe.” ~ Barack Obama

Hadn't thought of that, but sure!

I'm happy to sign books for anyone who (1)already has one or (2)wants to buy one for the very low price of $10.

Book signing

I'm bringing my own for you to sign.

Ha! I was coming upstairs to write this.

You saved me the time.

Tentatively we will hear from Bernard Allen who is running to fill Senator Mallone's seat, Rep. Brad Miller, Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin and maybe a few others.

This year we are having more of a drop in event because of JJ. Please don't feel like you can't come if you didn't RSVP. I have a friend coming from Monroe who will be attending a Democratic Women's reception prior to the Bash and I'm hoping she'll bring a few of the Dem Women with her.

I'm bringing some desserts

and a salad with lettuce from my garden. It might not feed a lot of people, but I just thinned my green leaf and mesclun and salads with baby greens are really yummy, so at least a few people can have some salad. The radishes are also from my garden, but other fixins will have to be purchased at the farmer's market up the street since my tomatoes are little green things and I don't have any peppers, tomatoes or onions ready.

I can't promise, James, but I will see how my day works out

Robert's looking at some medical problems and I've got a long day of family obligations. We'll see what today brings, then what tomorrow brings, and if I can make it, I'll be there. Right now I'm taking each moment as it comes. We've come upon a sudden hitch in getting hitched and Robert might have to have some minor surgery this week in order to be healed up and cleared to fly in November. If it ain't one thing, it's two (sigh).

I used to snicker at bridezillas. Not n'more. That sneaker done hit the other foot!

Signed,

Sorry to hear the troublesome news

What a bummer ... but the silver lining might be the chance for us all to see you and give you our well wishes in person.

It'll all work out just like it's supposed to.

Wish I Could Make It

I know I'm new around these parts, but I always love a party. However, my girlfriend and I are moving into a new place this weekend, so I will be M.I.A. Sounds like a great time. Til the next Blogger Bash, I'll just have to communicate with everyone through these here internets.

I wish you a supremely successful event.

You could take a break from moving and

come by to eat and run....bring your girlfriend, all are invited! We would be happy with a quick "Hello/goodbye"!

Can be there by 4:30 probably.

would it be ok to come later. I may have to work up until 4 so I can be there by 4:30 if I don't get off early. I am trying to find someone to take my place at work but It looks like that won't happen.

I asked for the day off but I just found ot I didn't get it.

Great. Come anytime.

Thanks!

Agree with James, come anytime

just come!

I just picked up the stuff

to make pasta salad, and it looks like my princess is driving in from Charlotte tomorrow, so there's a good chance she'll accompany me to the Bash.

It's a good thing our pasta salads are very different

Mine is boring but nutritious and yours is sinfully good. (probably nutritious as well, but sinfully good)

6 things that can "unboring" any pasta salad:

--garlic

--dill

--shallots

--calamata olives

--feta cheese

--more garlic

just add, then repeat as needed.

by the way, wanna try something new?

chop broccoli and cauliflower into the tiniest chunks you can manage, mix them in equal parts, add mayo and thinly sliced green onion.

tres good.

I've got a few of those things

in my pasta salad. I use both Italian and Greek Vinaigrette dressings, and the latter has quite a few chunks of feta in it.

But the rudest part is the red onion. I stick my face up to the pile in the produce section, and the one that reaches up and smacks me goes into the sack. :o

who doesn't love...

...the spank of a red onion?

try baking one, whole and in its skin, sometime--or even better, put it on the grill over coals.

it turns the onion so sweet it almost makes its own dessert.

Yum, Fake only you could make me

want an onion at midnight :-)

ok, this'll make it even worse...

...take that baked onion, remove the skin, slice thinly, and toss it in a saute pan with bacon for just a minute or so.

an astonishingly good mixture to put over lettuce--and guaranteed to put a smile on the face of a dinner guest.

Definitely not "lo-cal" :)

The few times I've tried to "slim it down", the lack of summer sausage and tortellini inspired various complaints. Even from me. ;)

Was yours the one with pesto last year? If so, that was reeaally good. I love pesto.

I did two last year

One had pesto and that's not the one I'm bringing. :D I'm doing the easy rotini and fresh veggies with some balsamic vinaigrette. I'm also bringing brownies, mint brownies, chocolate chess pie, lemon squares, banana bread, zucchini bread, lemon bread and a salad made from baby greens (in other words...I thinned my lettuce) from my garden. Radishes are from my garden as well.

Brownies are finished and am making lasagna for dinner then back to baking for tomorrow.

Getting in the mood

Life is incredibly complex, but there are so many things to appreciate about it. Taking the time to enjoy the beauty of nature and the warmth of friends and family is not time wasted, it's the undeniably best use of the time we have.

p.s. sorry about the size of the pic. Just couldn't bring myself to scrunch it down.

So close

Made it to Chapel Hill. Did the Franklin St thing. Did the campus thing. Stopped by Southern Season about 2:30 and our child turned into jelly-legged devil child. Back home we went. At least we caught a glipmse of Roy Underhill (The Woodwright's Shop guy) when we drove back through Pittsboro.

Oh well...
