NCDP takes big leap forward

Saturday was a big day for the North Carolina Democratic Party. Many of you may have heard about the fundraiser being held in Charlotte - the Sanford Hunt Frye dinner. As Democrats from across the state gathered for the gala, a much smaller group of 38 members of the Executive Council met earlier in the day to conduct the party's business. Several important decisions were made - all of which move the party forward.

John Brooks dismissed as chair of NCDP Council of Review

Former Labor Commissioner John Brooks has been removed as chair of the North Carolina Democratic Party’s Council of Review, the party’s committee tasked with resolving internal disputes. In her letter dismissing Brooks, NCDP Chair Patsy Keever referenced multiple violations of the party’s Plan of Organization, as well as, Brooks’ refusal to delay a hearing scheduled for Sunday April 12, at 9:00 a.m. after the Respondent suffered a serious heart attack on Thursday April 2, and underwent emergency surgery. Keever ended her letter with the simple admonishment,

One legislator shows up for work on a snow day...hilarity ensues

Remember back in July when a brand new state Senator from Charlotte was introduced here as a "Dem to Watch"? Jeff Jackson has earned a bit of good press since then and today he is at it again. You see, Jeff showed up for work even though today's session had been cancelled. He is now singlehandedly trying to fix the mess the Republicans have created.

He announced this on his Facebook page:

Rest in peace, Coach

We lost a beloved member of our family Saturday night. Dean Smith, former head basketball coach at Carolina, died at the age of 83.

I am one of those Tar Heels who grew up knowing Coach Smith as the only coach of our beloved basketball team. I was born in 1962 while my father was a law student at UNC. My mother was a rabid Carolina basketball fan and I have very early memories of my polite southern mother cursing like a drunken sailor during the games.

Patsy Keever is Chair of the North Carolina Democratic Party

It only took one round of voting and it was overwhelming.

Ron Sanyal 6 votes,
Constance Johnson 9 votes
Janice Covington Allison 8
Marshall Adame 169
Patsy Keever more than 368

There are a lot of folks leaving.

Some of us probably would have been penalized for excessive celebration if this had been a football game. :)

North Carolina Democratic Party SEC Meeting Open Thread

The meeting is about to start. The atmosphere is festive for the most part with what seems like a large number of people wearing Patsy Keever stickers. Before the meeting started we enjoyed a patriotic sing-a-long led by NCDP Secretary Melvin Williams.

Colors have been presented and a convocation has been delivered.

Aaaaaand...we're off!

Update #1

Sock Puppets and Astroturf Part 1

Over the past several months George Fisher, David W Moore, Chris Telesca, and a number of fake accounts suspected to be tied to Moore, have created chaos on Facebook as they jumped from one Democratic party group or page to another spreading lies and rumors in an attempt to smear Patsy Keever, while bolstering support for Randy Voller.

Misogyny within Voller Faction of NCDP hits new low

The heat is on and Randy Voller’s personal blogger, George Fisher, a former candidate for the NC Senate, David Moore, and Moore’s cadre of sock puppets have been busy little bees. The two men and have been flitting about Facebook writing some of the pettiest comments I have seen in my 10 years of blogging. These men rank up with some of the foulest misogynists I’ve run into, and while I’m perfectly capable of tuning them out, it seems they are intent on bringing down Marshall Adame, the man they have been supporting for chair of the North Carolina Democratic Party.
