'Recent Events in Charlotte'

It has long been said it takes only one step to go from the sublime to the ridiculous. This past week, the NC General Assembly jumped into the ridiculous with both feet. Any intimation that a driver can use his car to strike protesters blocking a road is prime for misuse and abuse. Nevertheless, HB 330 passed in the House and was sent to the Senate.

EXTRA! Read All About It! NCGA Voids Same Sex Marriages!

At least, that is what they propose to do via HB 780. This bill, sponsored by Representatives Speciale, Pittman & Ford, flatly states that our NC General Assembly can declare any SCOTUS decision to be null and void within our borders. With that premise, they resurrect 2012's 'Amendment 1' and proceed to declare same sex marriages, performed in our state or anywhere else, null and void.

What will they void next?
Certainly, Roe v. Wade.
Most probably, Brown v. Board of Education.
Dred Scott.
Miranda.
Hey! Maybe they can invalidate Bush v. Gore!

KKK No Shows at Rally

Reports are that the KKK was a no show at today's announced rally in Pelham, NC, a town in western Caswell County.

Who did show Up?

About 150 or so counter protestors,
a couple of dozen members of the media,
a dozen police officers.

But no one from the Klan. At least, no one dressed in a Klan costume showed up.

It should be noted that NC GOP Chair, Robin Hayes, has joined Democrats in condemning Klan activities, saying:

North Carolina's Sore Loser

A trend on Twitter this morning is based on a New York Times piece titled, "North Carolina's Sore Loser." Names have been left off to protect the innocent.

Dems & Repubs BOTH voted this guy out. Remember that Trumpzoids. NC went Trump but kicked McCrory to the curb

Gov. Pat McCrory, rejected by the voters, is engaging in a shameless attack on the electoral system.

Since GOP voter suppression didn't work, Repub Gov refuses to cede office =>

Rumors Abound.

Rumors about that any special session called to deal with the issue of how schools will deal with days of attendance lost to Hurricane Matthew may deal with another issue.

HB2? No.

The State Supreme Court.
What's wrong with it, you ask?
Mike Morgan won his election.
How to fix that?
Simple.
Add more justices.

When you can't win based on your ideas, you change the rules until you get your way.

The Constitution sets the number of justice. Two more can be added.

Stay tuned.

Good Neighbor Policy

Most of North Carolina knows about the telephone and internet services the town of Wilson offered to its citizens. Called Greenlight, it was such a threat to Time Warner, Comcast and AT&T that the telecom giants made donations to now-US Senator Thom Tillis that he spearheaded a bill through the legislature that denied all NC municipalities the ability to follow Wilson's lead and create their own wifi services for citizens.

Invest in the future, invest in education.

Our current state leadership projects a revenue surplus for the coming year. Yet they are asking all state agencies to show a 2% cut in their proposed budgets for the next legislative session.

School officials say a late August memo from Gov. Pat McCrory’s chief budget officer signals that all state departments, including the public schools, must soon present options for a 2 percent cut in their 2017-2019 budget, roughly a $173 million loss for North Carolina schools.

Early Vote Plans

You may want to wait till it's late at night and you can't sleep to read this one. Although it does supply some insight into the people of North Carolina!

As a Democrat, I can’t say enough good things about Josh Malcolm, one of the two Dem reps on the State Board Of Elections.(SBOE)
