A Message from Wayne Goodwin, NCDP Chair

Note: I posted the message, below, on Facebook and Twitter a few days ago, primarily for members of the NCDP State Executive Committee and active Dems statewide, and am now providing it here as a personal courtesy to fellow BlueNC members, some of whom were very kind to encourage me to seek the post of NCDP chairman two years ago.

Why I'm Running for NC Democratic Party Chairman

Wayne Goodwin for NC Democratic Party Chairman

I’m a North Carolina Democrat.

Like for so many folks, a good strong public education and programs created by Democrats helped me succeed in life. My public school teachers, my church and my family raised me in rural Richmond County and made me who I am today.

In fact, there hasn’t been a time when politics – the art of the possible – did not mean a great deal to me.

An overview of my 2016 re-election campaign

Last Friday I sat down and recorded a public access TV show to be broadcast regularly over the next 3+ weeks in the Greenville/eastern North Carolina area. It's a 26-minute long discussion of my background, the work of the Insurance Commissioner's office, my record, and what is at stake in the 2016 Insurance Commissioner campaign. Please WATCH and SHARE. Click here for the video. Thank you! ....

Read here the press release and primary details about the settlement. It's the largest ever fine imposed by the Office of NC Insurance Commissioner and the NC Department of Insurance, and almost double the previous fine of any insurance company here in our state.

Note that the specifics of the settlement are linked within the press release.

For the past 30 years, North Carolina's Seniors' Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) has been helping hundreds of thousands of North Carolinians save over $75 million on their health care. Now, some of the politicians in Washington are threatening to cut the SHIIP system that saves money for both taxpayers and beneficiaries.

Ned Barnett's Editorial About NC's Higher Health Insurance Premiums

Already online tonight, linked here and below, is a Ned Barnett editorial based on a lengthy interview he and I had a few days ago. If the State of North Carolina had taken my recommendations from 2010-2013 then health insurance rates for many individuals and families would be lower now in 2015, 2016 and the foreseeable future than what we are experiencing now. The editorial should appear in the print Sunday version of the N&O tomorrow. I welcome your feedback.
