Blue Century - Playing Offense
When it comes to becoming the media, a new group out of Asheville is taking the bull by the horns.
"Blue Century was founded by veteran Democratic campaign staff and volunteers. We believe the future of American politics lies in grassroots and netroots activism.
We're through playing defense. Through being defined by opponents. It's time we defined ourselves, not by what we're against, but by what we're for.
Creative, small-scale radio campaigns can - like Howard Dean's Internet campaign - make politics more accessible to ordinary people. Listen for Blue Century's messages on both progressive and conservative talk radio."
Their ads are already running on Asheville area radio, and they're looking forward to expanding via the internet and airwaves.
Follow this link to hear four of their ads.
"Blue Century believes upbeat and creative radio spots – focusing on core beliefs and good citizenship rather than programs and policies – will be heard long after listeners tune out the attack ads. We're looking beyond the next election. By keeping our efforts modest and costs low, we hope to run ads year round that promote our message.
We can erode corporate media dominance, win over independents and swing voters, inspire veteran and new volunteers, and boost voter turnout, strengthening our democracy.
It's time to play offense. We will lead by example and empower others to do the same. We cannot match the big boys dollar for dollar or minute for minute. But rather than remain mute, rather than complain about what resources we don't have, we choose to fight back with the means at our disposal.
If you're not Goliath, fine. Be David."
It's exciting that private citizens like you and me are making their voices heard. This isn't a big corporate group. It isn't a Party-sponsored group. It's regular people who want to take back their democracy. Go visit Blue Century.

Finally!
Citizens stepping in where the party leaders fear to tread, or just won't tread.
I am so tired of whiny Dems in Raleigh and DC making excuses because the Reps didn't just roll over when they became the majority. It's good to know that there are still good Dems out there willing to do the work that should be done by our elected officials.
No matter that patriotism is too often the refuge of scoundrels. Dissent, rebellion, and all-around hell-raising remain the true duty of patriots.
