Blue ribbon commission takes on mental health housing
A new Blue Ribbon Commission has been created to deal with the settlement with US Dept. of Justice regarding institutionalization of persons with psychiatric disabilities in NC. The next meeting of the Subcommittee of the Commission is Sept. 12 at 10 am at the NC General Assembly.
The regular LOC meeting for the DHHS Legislative Oversight Committee is Tuesday,Sept. 11.

On Wednesday, they reviewed the Department of Health and Human Services settlement agreement with the Department of Justice during the state's first Blue Ribbon Commission meeting.

'Reality of homelessness comes home to CEOs'
Most people don't want to ever think about homelessness. The affluent among us may think it can never happen to them. However, the recent Great Recession has made the risk of becoming homeless more pervasive, especially for middle class who found their homes being foreclosed. The local United Way came up with a way to illustrate vividly the life homeless individuals face.
