Bobby is mad, y'all.

Regardless if one terms the President's announced change in policy a surge or an escalation or an augmentation, the so-called new plan can be summed up in four words: more of the same.

Congressman Bob Etheridge has had it! He's mad, y'all, and rightfully so. He's a rock solid pro-military Democrat but he has had all the b.s. he can take from W. He got his snark on in the House Tuesday.

The NCDP has the whole statement. Here are afew of the best parts:

Mr. Speaker, I voted to give the President the authority to topple Saddam Hussein's regime in Iraq because he said it presented a ``grave and gathering threat to America.''

The President said Saddam Hussein possessed weapons of mass destruction and intended to use them against America.

The President said Saddam was in cahoots with Osama bin Laden's al Qaeda terrorists. I took the President of the United States of America at his word. We have learned, to our great regret, what that was worth.

Amen Congressman Etheridge!!! W's word isn't worth a pasture patty.

Mr. Speaker, I have voted for every defense bill and war funding legislation that Congress has passed for Iraq. I am very concerned about the state of readiness of our American Armed Forces.

As the Representative for Fort Bragg and Pope Air Force Base, I know that America's military and our military communities have many unmet needs, while the war in Iraq continues to consume more and more public dollars, with no end in sight.

In conclusion, I rise in support of this resolution with no joy in my heart, but with solid conviction in my soul. The failure of this administration has gone unchecked and unchallenged by the Congress of the United States for far too long. We need a new direction in Iraq.

The question before Congress is this: Is more of the same in Iraq an acceptable policy? The answer is no.

:) My Congressman made me smile today!!!!

It's time for a real debate, not just posturing. Great post Leslie!

Thanks.

Cong. E. is choosing to fight FOR the troops on this one. I'm so proud I could bust!

I'm headed down the road now to see if I can make a DWJC meeting before it's over. :)

Wow!!!!

Wonder if Mike McIntyre is going to speak with that same tone. Hmmmmm. I didn't get a chance to watch today.

When is Rep. Miller slated?

Leslie H's picture

Not sure

Kos posted a link to this new House blog site (with video) that Pelosi has started within her Speaker's webpage. Its called The Gavel and it looks like it will be a most excellent place for primary source information; statements, speeches, debates, etc. :) We can watch it for more NC folks.

And why isn't this man already running

To unseat Dole?

Wow.

chartreuse dog's picture

He has so much seniority in the House

are we sure we want to give that up?

Unique's picture

Good Point

It might be better to ask whom he'd recommend. He must know a lot of people by now.

momoaizo's picture

We can ask him in person

TOMORROW in Seagrove.....WooHooooooo!

Oooops

I think we're talking about 2 different guys here - I was referring to Congressman E's seniority in the House. Do be sure and ask Cong. Miller tomorrow - again - to be giving it serious thought! Sorry I can't be there myself. Personally, I would love to see him go to the Senate.

Internazionale's picture

That's a great thought

The only thing worth giving up that house seniority for is firming up that Senate majority and giving voice to all the blue North Carolinians currently muted in the Senate by the two Bush lapdogs (one of whom is ready to be euthanized anyway).

I'm assuming, of course, that we have someone to take Cong E's place or Miller's, for that matter. We don't do a good enough job at national level of having a succession plan---witness Edwards needlessly giving up his seat to Burr. Not saying Edwards did that on purpose---just a by-product of his actions. Things need to happen more cohesively in the party to avoid situations like that. Bowles was a good candidate on paper and will kick ass in his current job running UNC system, but more charisma is needed in races like that.

Ouch

I think the procedure

Is painless.

At least, that's what they say, right?

I hope he stays

in the House. I dont think we would keep his seat.

But I could be wrong about the numbers there, I just dont think they are all that great.

Well. . .

Even if it were, I don't think she'd feel it anyway.
