Brain waves

Stop. This a waste of your time and your life. It makes no discernible difference in anything that matters. Go tend your garden. Finish the novel. Get a real job. Take a nap. All these excellent people who come and go and write and lurk. All these excellent conversations. So what? Vacuums are for filling. Go in peace. Give it away to a good home. Sell it on eBay. Blue Cross would just about kill for the url. But who will fight the Puppetmaster? Politics is always depressing, just don't be rash. At least float through another election cycle. Or better yet, rise to the occasion. Hire writers. Reposition. Get a new logo. Take some time off. Put your hand in a bucket of water, then take it out. Watch how fast the water fills in the empty space. That's how fast the universe adjusts when we depart. The solstice is coming.

Just thinking out loud

Hmmmm. Man, your thoughts

Hmmmm. Man, your thoughts are deep but not uncoverable, I think. I do not claim to know beans about what it takes to not only present a site like this one but to maintain it and fund it, if that's not out of line to bring up. Are you the "sole guardian" so to speak here? No collaborative effort? Can we here help make some of your "frustrative thinking" go away?

I may have totally misinterpreted your "thoughts-out-loud", but somehow I do not think so. If I have, just tell me I'm all washed up and mind my own business but do good and be nice and have fun doing it, will ya? :)

You've got some most excellent people that contribute here (no, I know I'm not one, but there are a number of absolutely fabulous presenters here). Do you need some "crowdsourcing"?

It'd be fun to brainstorm ways to grow BlueNC and see if there is a way to seek out things that might help in that effort from possibly putting in some dedicated "researcher/editorialists" (maybe using some of your better contributors here) to help in funding to "ad-search" folks, well, you get the idea. This is a great blog. God knows I've learned a TON since being here. But, it does seem sometimes it is just for our enjoyment brought to us by a small source that gains nothing more than knowing we're being offered a place to voice our particular opinions.

If it was me, I'd have been doing a lot of thinking out loud long ago.

Again, if I misread this, I apologize up front.

Thanks

I'm just making this up from day to day, and some days it gets to be more than I can manage. A few of those dark days in a row, and boom, it's tempting to throw in the towel.

That's why I'm asking for whatever thoughts anyone has about what BlueNC could be should be whatever. It would be especially helpful to hear from a few lurkers, those hundreds (and sometimes thousands) of people who visit but never or rarely comment.

You got it right, Mr. Fox. Thanks for helping think through this.

J

Lurking too much...

James, I've been reading BlueNC but not commenting mainly because other folks usually jump in to make the same kind of points I would. This whole healthcare mess hits close to home, for instance... I should be putting my $0.07 (inflation and debt service adjusted $0.02). I'll try to get back in the game.

James,

I lurk. I learn. I enjoy. Though not active, I feel BlueNC Pirde. The quality of BlueNC reflects positively on our state, relative to other state blogs on Kos, etc.

I think BlueNC personifies Do Good, Be Nice, Have Fun. Well, fun most of the time. :)

Deep appreciation,

Helen

Thank you, Helen

Very much appreciated.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep

Yeah, yeah.

Life's hard.

At least you don't have this problem.

Somebody, please think of the children's second vacation home.

I know

how lucky I am.

Missing our Muse

I sure miss Betsy. Hope things are OK.

Is it luck or is life the reality we choose?

If good thoughts can change my reality then I'm thinking them and hoping everyone else is too. I am lucky could it be that I'm blessed? If the majority of my life has been filled with happiness, will I have to eventually pay with sadness?

BlueNC is a haven, I often wonder how you and Betsy keep it going though. The committment that you have made is admirable, I wouldn't have been able to keep it up as long as you have. So many regulars haven't been on since the silly season and I miss their contributions. BlueNC is one of the few progressive voices of reason and it would be missed.

You can take comfort at least

in the fact that with the senate contenders in place and the primary coming up, it will be a silly season again before you know it.

I know with Pam Spaulding's site Pam's House Blend practically every front page store gets shared on facebook and twitter and elsewhere, and a lot of her site regulars do similar sharing for stories they find interesting, and I think that helps bring in people who are already comfortable with e-interactions.

NCSU's unofficial college message board has nearly 40,000 registered users, and a section devoted to politics and news, and I try to reference this site there enough so that everyone there at least knows about this site (in fact I did earlier today). And I see others reference it from time to time too.

If we can build this site and get more people posting maybe it'd be easier to run the site without having to spend so much time generating content.

I wonder if we could start inviting more politicians to participate. Like on the Stephen Colbert show he has Congressmen on all the time. If we could invite more town councilmen and county commissioners and state legislators to participate, it might be fun.

Maybe a Wake County Commissioner would be interested in coming on to discuss this: http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/pdf/PPP_Release_Wake_1217.pdf

At least we have a Climate Change deal

Yep, we now have grinded out a huge climate change deal

Just one more "kinda" thingy (oops, that is just another Fox News thing, sorry 'bout that, but then again, it was the first site to actually come out with it that I could find). What is next? Gays will "sometimes" be able to be acknowledged in the military depending on situations and circumstances?

Give us a break. What is happening, everyone?

Gays "sometimes" acknowledged.

Speaking of! That reminded me of an article on Pam's page this morning about same-sex marriages performed before Nov 2008 will be recognized in CA.

So if you'll follow along with me that means:
If a same-sex couple married in the brief time the were granted marriage equality, then they are married.
If they didn't they can be domestic partners.
If they married before Nov 2008, out of state, then they are married.
If they married after Nov. 2008 out of state then they are considered married but they have to call it domestic partnership
If they cross state lines they may or may not be married depending on where they go.
And regardless of whether they are married or domestic partnered (huh?) they are considered by the federal government to be legal strangers.
And if one is blue eyed, a mole on the left cheek, and turns around three times...
wait I'm confused....

As for the original post.
I'm a lurker though I posted a few things. I'm just not eloquent and illustrious enough to really post much of value. (Fiction, I discovered, is much easier to write) I'm no pro blogger, or anything. But I always find the info here to be helpful and informative.

Boku no otto wa totemo aishite

This is an important resource, James.

And I'm glad BlueNC is here. When I want to know what grassroots progressives are thinking about statewide issues, I don't know anywhere else I could go.

This site is invaluable, especially for those of us way out of the beltline who want to stay informed about what's going on in state politics.

Thank you for making this possible.
