Breaking: Hurricane Liddy threatens NC residents

Binker's on a roll today, with this mind-boggling story of Senator Elizabeth Dole interfering in North Carolina's hurricane preparedness activities.

Friday, September 5, 2008 6:15 p.m. MEDIA AVAILABILITY

Dole will meet with the North Carolina State Emergency Response Team (SERT) to discuss preparations for Tropical Storm Hanna and Hurricane Ike. Yesterday, Dole spoke with North Carolina Governor Mike Easley, Department of Homeland Security Undersecretary for Federal Emergency Management R. David Paulison, who heads the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and officials at the American Red Cross to help coordinate an effective response to the severe weather.

With all due respect Liddy, we'd all be better off if you would please go back to Watergate and do what you always do for North Carolina. Which ain't much.

Or as Binker put it:

It's not just that senators don't have a whole lot to do in disaster given that whole lack of executive authority thing. Honestly, I can't remember her ever doing this before for any previous hurricane. You don't think this could have something to do with it being an election year, do you?

Go away, Senator Dole. You are way out of line, and you are distracting serious people from doing their jobs.

The nerve

Liddy's track record with the Red Cross is a perfect indication of her abilities in disaster management. Her tenure lurched from one screw up to another, leaving the organization politicized, demoralized, and incapable of fulfilling its mission.

Shameless

If there is a real disaster, she's just getting in their way.

Absolutely shameless.

I just stumbled across this

Hurricane Isabel diary from 2003 as I was trolling for Dole Dirt, and I became entranced. You have to read from the bottom-up. Oh, here's the Dole reference that snagged me:

Dole, the mis-informed, thinks we’re all thrilled because Cherry Point gets 1200 new jobs. This ain’t Cherry Point and all we get is shit. And noise. Because VA Beach gets to build hootie tootie residential areas in the path of the Navy’s landing strips and they homeowners are pissed about the noise — we get it — because we are insignificant. Va Beach residents built AFTER the Navy came to town. They had a choice, they could have built somewhere else.

Enough of that. It makes me so angry that I can’t speak of it.

eta: LOL! (I never say that). What a jewel:

Isabel came and went. No, wait — for some folks, she’s still working her way through their lives, scrounging around like your fat brother-in-law during half-time, cleaning out your fridge and eating all your left-overs.

:)

I'm 57 and I can't remember

I'm 57 and I can't remember any such political shenanigans in all my years. It's like High School Musical ... without the music. Oh wait. I forgot. It's with ripped off music.

Unfortunately, they don't have enough self-reflection skills to be embarrassed.

Showboat

Having been part of an emergency management team during a hurricane I can tell you that visiting pols are a distraction and a diversion of resources. There is a legitimate purpose to a Governor or Crime Control Secretary visiting but most others are rubbernecking or showboating.

Wes Climer

paid mouthpiece for Biddy Dole, showed up over at Binker's place full of shuckin' and jivin' about how the very senior senator is always on top of all your nat-u-ral dis-ass-ters. It's a hoot.

Bottom line ... see my comment right below his:

Mr. Climer.

Methinks thou doest protest too much. If this weren't patently political, you wouldn't have had to send out an advisory on the matter. If we buy your logic, we'd have to conclude that you consider it newsworthy when your boss does her durn job.

We may be little people, but that doesn't mean we're stupid.

I don't think that Senator McCain doesn't care what's going on in the lives of Americans, I just think he doesn't know.

Jesus Swept ticked me off. Too short. I loved the characters and then POOF it was over.
