Brisson gets a Primary challenger

Matt Dixon will try to knock off one of the Gang of Five:

Elizabethtown attorney Matt Dixon announced this week that he would seek the Democratic nomination in state House District 22. In a statement, Dixon said he will focus his campaign on returning education funding cut under the budget Brisson and Republican leaders crafted.

We asked for it, now we need to back this guy up. I haven't found a campaign page yet, but I'll put up a link when I do.

Are all Gang of Fivers retiring or have primaries?

Brisson -- primaried as noted above

Crawford -- is double-bunked with fellow Rep. Winkie Wilkins.

Hill -- said he's retiring, right?

Owens -- said he's retiring, right?

Spear -- said he's retiring, right?

Time to enforce some party discipline on those who don't know thats it's time for them to go.

That looks right

I'm having a Googly problem right now, but I think that's an accurate status.

update on Crawford

Here's the deal with this slippery character. People erroneously think the Reps didn't reward Crawford for his collaborations by double-bunking him with Wilkins. What is happening is that they're bribing Wilkins to back off with a made-to-order Senate seat, representing Person and Caswell Counties. Hard to imagine him turning down a sweet deal like that, which kind of makes him complicit with Crawford's schemes when he ought to be opposing Crawford, but that's another story. If Wilkins leaves the picture, Crawford will likely win the primary because neither Jason Jenkins nor the Person County commissioner who was contemplating a run have what it takes to overcome Crawford, in terms of money, organization, or experience. With respect to the latter, if Crawford has a weakness, it is that he's never faced a serious challenge...unfortunately, other than Wilkins, such a challenger doesn't probably exist...among local Democrats anyway. The word is that at this point, a Republican challenger from Granville County will file just before the deadline. Accordingly, if you want Crawford to leave office this year, one of three things have to happen...one, Wilkins must be convinced to stay and fight for HD-02, or two; one of his other primary challengers pulls off an upset (not a good prospect); or three; Crawford loses to the Republican challenger in November. That could happen given that the African-American population of HD-02 is somewhere around 25% and theoretically he won't be getting their support. But Crawford has money to burn and he'll certainly be spreading it around thick.

Ugh

I wonder how the guy lives with himself? Is it okay for an atheist to pray for a creep like Crawford to go ahead and put us out of his misery?

Where's the personal neutron bomb when you need it?

Just don't lump Wilkins in with Crawford.

Wilkins is a very conscientious public servant. If he would prefer to run for Senate as opposed to running in a contested primary with a fellow incumbent, that's his right. He is not obligated to follow anyone's outside agenda, and we could use a few more D's in the Senate. I haven't heard of anyone else stepping up to run in that senate district.

Well, apparently, I stand corrected

With this bit of news that should interest everyone:

http://www.personcountylife.com/news/local_news_headlines/article_1494c1...

....and the imminent announcement of a Republican candidate for HD-02, the Fox of Oxford just outsmarted himself...and apparently, every door to run for re-election may be about to slam shut in Crawford's face. He could do a Lieberman, but he's unlikely to win another term that way IF there is also a Republican challenger...a high likelihood, because it's a no-lose proposition for Granville County Commissioner Tim Karan...if he wins, he wins, if he loses, he doesn't have to resign his commissioner seat with two years remaining on his term. I've been following Crawford for years and he's a helluva "chess player", but if the announcement (link above) is for real, he is caught between an established Democrat to include a tough primary fight and a Republican challenger in a swing district whose fastest growing precincts are Republican-leaning. I'd never underestimate Crawford but it looks like he is well and truly screwed. If so, never thought I'd see the day.

Matt Dixon for NC House

I'm Matt Dixon and I'm challenging William Brisson for NC House in the May Democratic Primary because we need a Representative who will uphold democratic principles.

All across the state, North Carolinians are still feeling the pain of hard economic times. Bladen and Sampson counties are no different. The cost of energy and the price of a week’s groceries continue to rise, while wages remain stagnant. As your representative, I will work to fight the spiraling costs of everyday life.

As a graduate from North Carolina’s public school system, I understand the importance of providing a quality education. I believe that we need to restore the funding for education, work to reduce class sizes, and find ways to keep teacher pay competitive so that we recruit and train the best possible teachers for our children.

I am committed to providing the people of this area with the representation they deserve, and you can trust that I won’t back down from that commitment. However, if this campaign is to be successful it will take a strong grassroots effort. Election Day is a little under 2 months away, so please help our campaign by visiting my website: http://www.dixonfornchouse.com/ and making a financial contribution.

Thanks for your support.

Mr. Dixon

Can I ask where you stand on the amendment the General Assembly has put before us this May?
