Candidate Overby Asks for help in Remembering our Korean and WWII era Veterans.
I am Ross Overby, a Candidate for Congress in the 9th District. Throughout my life I have known all too well that I owe the peace, security, and the joy of raising a family in this county to the enormous sacrifice made by ordinary men and women. In every aspect of my private life I have sought to understand and honor the people that have made the peace in my life possible. For over 20 years I have touched the hallowed sites where enormous American sacrifice was laid at the alter of freedom. Places such a Normandy, Viet Nam, Corregidor, East Berlin, Punch Bowl Cemetery, Chuk Lagoon and many other places are not just far off locales in our history books, they are places where I have set foot in honor and remembrance of our service men and women who entered harm's way for me.
I now have the honor of offer the same remembrance as a candidate for Congress. I will be visiting the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) and Joint Security Area (JSA) along the border between North and South Korea in early December 2007. I am coordinating with the USO and VFW Posts in Korea and the Charlotte USO and VFW Posts to visit our men and women serving in Korea. While in Korea I will recognize the valor and service of our Korean Era Veterans.
On March 12, 2008, I will participate in the 63rd Memorial Service on the Island of Iwo Jima. One day each year access is granted to the island for a public remembrance of the servicemen that fought in the epic battle for Iwo Jima and to remember always the sacrifices made in the defense of freedom. I will be working with the VFW and American Legion Posts throughout North Carolina to represent the Veterans State-wide in my visit to Iwo Jima.
If you know of someone serving in Korea, if you are or know of a Veteran of Korea or WWII and would like to work with me in my effort to recognize the sacrifices made, please contact me at ross@overby4congress.com. By all means spread the word.

Thank you Ross
My father was wounded in combat while serving in Korea. He and many others like him are forgotten veterans. I appreciate you making this post at BlueNC.
