Jim Pendergraph former sheriff of Mecklenburg County and current County Commissioner who is running for the 9th Congrestional District seat now held by Sue Myrick says he is suspicious of President Obama's birthplace

“I have reason to be suspicious,” he said. “But I don’t know. I haven’t seen the facts. I think there’s a lot of smoke and generally when there’s smoke there’s got to be fire somewhere.”

Hasn't seen the facts? Puhleeze! When your own party chair declares:

Even Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus last year declared the issue a distraction and said, “the president was born in the United States.”

you have to figure the facts are out there.

It's sheer madness. The Observer editorial board needs to add three simple questions to all candidate interviews to determine sanity before endorsements.

1) Did man land on the moon in 1969?
2) How old is the Earth?
3) And, which is a more trustworthy record of one's Nativity? A certificate of live birth ISSUED in 1961 from the Hawaii Department of Health or disagreeing accounts by "Luke" and "Matthew" CANONIZED in 325 AD by the First Council of Nicaea?

This right up there with the "rise" of Sarah Palin. John McCain really was not born in the United States, and Obama is the one that gets tagged with this birther nonsense!?!? (McCain was born in the Panama Canal Zone on a US military base.)
