Charlotte Prostitution Ring Prosecutions Have Started

I had followed this story casually with some mild annoyance that our law enforcement efforts were focused on busting a prostitution ring. I know its illegal in NC, I get that, but don't we have better things to be enforcing?

Now, the Observer reports today that the first "John" has been prosecuted in this circus.

Dr. Kenneth S. Friedman, who practices near Raleigh, pleaded guilty Monday in federal court to conspiring to entice an individual, identified only as “SJ,” to travel from North Carolina to Las Vegas to engage in prostitution.

Friedman, 55, is free on $25,000 bond pending sentencing. He faces up to five years in prison and a fine up to $250,000.

Five years??? For paying for consensual sex??? That's almost as bad as putting someone in jail for having a joint in their pocket.

I guess crime in Charlotte must be pretty low if that's were our tax dollars are focused.

I know I live in the heart of the Bible belt, but this is ridiculous.

It's just a warm up

for state government itself to get into the oldest profession. Once we shut down the private market, look for the North Carolina Education Prostitution Lottery to open soon behind a convenience store near you.

Uhh, did we get any pictures of the pros?

Just kidding!

It may seem excessive, but

prostitution (in general) is rarely as happy and healthy as HBO portrays in their "cathouse" series.

Aside from substance abuse and domestic sexual abuse issues which often draw very young girls into the business, it is also considered to be the primary cause of the continued and unbelievably widespread slavery problem. Not just worldwide, mind you: here in the United States as well.

Physical, sexual and psychological abuse, combined with addiction and economic despair, round out the benefits package for that occupation.

From what you posted,

I thought that this man had attempted to entice SJ to move to Las Vegas to become a prostitute. In other words, he wasn't "paying for sex", he was trying to set someone else up to sell sex (and undoubtedly give him a percentage.

That was my interpretation, anyhow. There's a world of difference between paying for a bj and attempting to lure someone into prostitution.

It's about CYA

Prostitution is semi-quasi-legal in Nevada, and this guy probably figured BYOP was legal, too. :)

He also probably argues with the stupid people on his television, growing angrier as they interrupt him. ;/

Wait.

Are you telling me they can't hear me?

Not the people that are actually

on the screen, no. The other people, the ones that work for Big Brother, well...

ah.....ok.

Seriously,

I do yell at the teevee - during hockey games and political events. It's just who I am.
