Children's Health Insurance Program at risk - ACTION NEEDED NOW
The federal program that has given states the money to provide children's health insurance over and above medicaid (S-CHIP) will expire on Sept. 30. President Bush has threatened to veto the reauthorization for this crucial program.
This is an especially important issue for North Carolina. During the 2007 Legislative Session, our legislators passed, and Governor Easley signed into law the NC Kid's Care Health Insurance Program, which will provide health insurance for children of working families earning up to 300% of federal poverty level starting July 2008. However, Bush's veto of the reauthorization effectively killed NC's effort to expand health insurance coverage to more children of the working poor.
The House votes TOMORROW. The Senate will follow later this week. Email your representative tonight, call them tomorrow, fax them, do whatever it takes. Let them know that it is imperative that they vote FOR THE CHILDREN'S HEALTH INSURANCE PROGRAM. If your representative is a Republican, please ask them not to put politics in front of the health of our children. We need a VETO-PROOF majority on this bill.
And once the bill is passed, we still have hundreds of thousands of uninsured children in the United States. Then we can get to work fixing that. But we can't take a step backwards now.

1-800-828-0498 (toll free) or 202-225-3121This is a reminder that if you have not already done so, please contact your Members of Congress and tell them to vote FOR an SCHIP bill that ensures coverage of at least 4 million children who would otherwise be uninsured and protects those now covered by SCHIP and OPPOSE President Bush’s threatened veto.
The House will vote on the State Children’s Health Insurance Program bill on Tuesday. The Senate will follow soon after. It will take at least a two-thirds vote in both chambers for Congress to override President Bush’s threatened veto.

This is really important.
I promise - if you make the call, send the email, or fire up the fax machine, I will be your best friend.

Okie dokey . I need a best friend.
Done.
Do good. Be nice. Have fun.
I love to email Dole and Burr
I know that Rep Miller will do the right thing, but I sent him an email any way.
Does the WH even read emails anymore?
I don't think the WH matters in this
Bush seems determined to veto it. We need to make sure we can beat a veto. That's why we need to have all of our Senators and Representatives, no matter what party they are on board. Dole is vulnerable on this - if she votes against children, I could run against her and win.

Yep.
This is a test.
Will Dole stand by her man, as she has through thick and thin over the past many years? Or will she put reelection ahead of principle?
Come on Liddy. It's not too late. You have a whole year to make up for five years of siding with corporate interests over the people who elected you.
But you better hurry. Time's a wasting.
Do good. Be nice. Have fun.
Done and done
It will be interesting to see if Coble is just a Bush toady or as he claims..."Our Congressman Coble"!
No matter that patriotism is too often the refuge of scoundrels. Dissent, rebellion, and all-around hell-raising remain the true duty of patriots.

McIntyre Voted With the Goopers Again
He is one of only eight nominal Democrats to do so. What is up with that jackass?
According to CNN, it's about Tobacco.
I suspect that is the case. I haven't been able to find a listing of the votes yet, and I've got to get to bed. What we need to do now is hammer the Dems who voted against the bill with emails asking them to change their vote when this comes back to them for the veto-override. They've made their stand for tobacco - and now we know they care more for a noxious plant that is legally turned into toxic poison and sold to folks to kill them. That's great. NOW it's time for them to look into their hearts, toss Joe Camel aside, and put their hand out to the child who needs them.
Hope I haven't offended any tobacco growers here. But you know. There are other crops - that don't kill people.
If you're in McIntyre's district, or any other district that has a Democrat (or Republican) who voted against this bill, call them and let them know it's not too late -- they still have a chance to do the right thing for our children. The bill will go to the Senate, and it will pass. Bush will most assuredly veto it, unless he has an honest-to-God come to Jesus moment. When it comes back around before 10/1/2007, they MUST vote for the bill, or children's advocates (read that as mothers and fathers everywhere) will not let anyone forget that they voted against babies.
BABIES, y'all. They voted against babies getting the vaccines they need to keep them healthy. They voted against well-child check ups. They voted against the right medicines at the right time, before an illness becomes catastrophic. They voted against peace of mind for parents.
Because they were afraid that addicts (smokers) wouldn't pay an additional 61 cents a pack for their drug. Holy Mother, I can't believe how idiotic that is. I've seen a smoker when they need a smoke! They'll go through the couch looking for change to buy the pack. Let those adults bear the extra cost - not the babies.
::sigh:: ok. /rant off.
Good night, and have a pleasant tomorrow.
