I don't much care what conventional wisdom says about this candidacy, Clay's message, values, and sincerity are clear and powerful. Miracles happen.
“Don't tell me what you value, show me your budget, and I'll tell you what you value.”
― Joe Biden
I think this dashes the idea that Clay is just doing this for a PR stunt. A lot of substance there, more than most candidates are willing to throw out.
p.s. my e-mail is down again, so if anybody needs to contact me, best to do a private message here instead of standard contact.
I saw that he was once a special education teacher in Wake County. That gives him more gravitas as a candidate.
Clay Aiken -- celebrity PLUS substance.
Renee Ellmers -- disapproval at home PLUS vapidity
The race is on.
"What I see from the folks who are opposing our agenda is whining coming from losers." -- Thom Tillis
... how much Aiken's substance and down to earth style will play against Ellmer's seething anger about everything.
Anger plays well with the Tea Party and evangelical crowd. Not so much with middle of the road and liberal voters.
I posted a comment on another post about the shifts in how voters get local information. Aiken's campaign will get him national attention which, ironically, might reach more voters in his district than local tv, radio or newspapers.
I am impressed by candidate Aiken's presence, message and ability to craft a specific platform targeted to his constituents. If this is a foreshadowing of things to come, he has a fighting chance and NC Democrats have a fighting chance of upsetting Rep. Elmers.
It is an impressive ad. I don't know much about Aiken and it was not only well presented but very informative about him and his values.
I am sure it will take some money to get this out to democrats who will be voting in a primary to represent democrats in an effort unseat Elmers.
Donations would probably be accepted at this point, I think.
It appears to be his announcement video and it looks like it's just on the web (but spreading rapidly through social media!). Some TV news stations are showing brief excerpts. I agree, portions could be extracted and would make a good ad.
And if you go to ClayAiken.com, you can indeed contribute $ and sign up for the email list.
Houston Barnes has already announced that he will withdraw and support Aiken. Wonder if Crisco and Morris will do the same. Wonder if the party will endorse or make suggestions.
Ellmers released a statement on Aiken's campaign earlier today:
“It speaks volumes to the state of the N.C. Democratic Party that the primary is shaping up to be a choice between the failed Perdue Administration’s Keith Crisco, a lawyer who doesn’t even live in the district, an activist who’s (sic) own party rejected her in the last democrat primary – and Aiken, a performer whose political views more closely resemble those of San Francisco than Sanford,” Ellmers spokeswoman Jessica Wood wrote in an email. “Renee best represents the values of the voters in the 2nd District and remains focused on fighting for their families.”
Reactions from NC LGBTs here.
the values of the bigoted tea party extremists who would destroy this country if they had their way.
She is a most vile individual.
That was an impressive introduction.
I'm a moderate Democrat.
from Kirk Ross:
I think the outcome of many mid-term elections this year will depend on the turnout among women 18-55. This is a candidate with tremendous name recognition and loyalty in that demo in NC-2.
Amen. Ditto. You can say that again.
COME ON WOMEN!
