Clay Day

It's been fascinating to watch Renee go into crisis mode in response to Clay Aiken's candidacy, quickly underscoring one of the major differences between her and her opponent. Ellmers has already proven herself to be a petty jerk, while Clay has occupied the high ground with thoughtfulness and maturity.

That's a tough choice for voters of the second district. Which candidate will they choose? The petty jerk is looking more than a little vulnerable.

Happy Clay Day, folks. Share whatever stories and news you come across.

PS Barry Saunders has a great column today about this race. Check it out.

False cries of "racism"

Some time ago Clay sent out a Tweet where he and his friends were supposedly playing a drinking game while watching the Republican National Convention, and if they saw a black person, they had to drink. Then he added a hashtag #soberasamormon.

It was plainly a commentary on the GOP's lack of support amongst African-Americans, and was in no way racist or demeaning to black people. Or Mormons, for that matter. But the RWNJ Twits jumped on it gleefully, acting like it was some sort of "smoking gun" of liberal hypocrisy. Or something equally stupid.

They will lie at the drop of a hint

We see this again and again. The entire GOP governing philosophy is built on trying to distract and destroy.

Clay has apparently tapped into

one (or more) of the mainstream Democratic Party's organizations (DCCC or NCDP probably), because I've already received two e-mails from him.

So, okay: I knew when I made some donations (not many, and not recently) that I would get myself on some lists, and I understand that fundraising (however tasteless) is a critical part of a competitive campaign. That being said, when you get propositioned by numerous different and heretofore unknown paramours, it kind of feels like your name and number is scribbled on several bathroom walls, with something like, "For a good time, call Steve at xxx-xxx-xxxx."

I may be easy, and I may be cheap. But I still have feelings, dammit. ;/

I believe

it's ActBlue. They're an organization that supports Democratic candidates with software and such, and they're running Clay's online donation system (as they do for many). Don't know who else might be involved.

But I relate to the concern. We've unsubscribed from the email lists of several folks we support just because we'd get daily (or more!) emails, nearly all of which asked for $.

I just got an email asking for a donation

I just got an email that is apparently from Clay Aiken asking for as little as $10 and as much as $50. I too have donated to various democrats around the state but not to the party so he got my email from somewhere in that mix.

It was not a very well written email. It claims that he was attacked for his candidacy even before he decided to run and that Clay did not realize the intensity of the attacks that would come his way.

He has some things to learn and he better learn them very quickly. He HAS learned that he needs money to win this thing so that's a good thing. Donate if you get a chance. At this point, it is all about money.

I hope he's assembling a top-notch team

It will be needed with all the national focus and pressure that is sure to arise.

If you donate money, you'll be asked to donate again. If you don't donate money, you'll be asked again to donate. :-)

I don't much care for this latest "formula" of candidate emails. They all are similar; they have some hot-button issue, an air of urgency and they ask for money. And they often come almost daily. I suppose perhaps they work, because all of the candidates seem to use this formula, but they don't work for me.

Renee the taker

Renee is sending what are obvious campaign mailers using her congressional franking privilege.

No reasonable person would look at these mailers and think they were constituent information pieces. They're blatant campaign flyers, and Renee is sending them out paid for by you and me.

What a vile, hypocritical, sleazy person she is.
