Collection of Quotes from North Carolina Politicians on the SOTU
Collected by WRALhere.
First some of the good:
U.S. G.K. Butterfield, D-N.C.: "Each year, the State of the Union provides the opportunity to reflect on what has been accomplished as well as the challenges ahead. If the country stays its current course, I see American families, seniors and veterans continuing to struggle as they face rising health care costs, skyrocketing heating bills, higher prices at the gas pumps, smaller paychecks and an out-of-control deficit."
___
U.S. Rep. David Price, D-N.C.: "President Bush had the opportunity this evening for a serious conversation with the American people about the challenges that confront us and how we are to meet them. He chose instead to conduct another 'spin session.' "
Rep. Bob Etheridge, D-N.C.: "The largest sector of our economy in North Carolina and a large part of this country is still agricutlure. Not one single word, not one, about agriculture. We've seen tremendous devastation as a result of hurricanes this year, as a result of droughts. Tomorrow, Congress will be Voting to cut $3 billion from important farm programs of the people who put food on our table. The president didn't address those programs, and I think they deserve attention."
Now the best:
Rep. Brad Miller, D-N.C.: "This is my fourth State of the Union, and I've learned to take with a grain of salt what the president says and to wait and look at the budget, which comes out a week or so later. ... What I didn't hear him say is what are we doing to do to improve the wages of average Americans. .... he still sees the economy through the eyes of the CEO, not through the eyes of the average worker."
And now the Senator that was not listening:
U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Dole, R-N.C.: "I support President Bush's steadfast commitment to winning the war on terror. We are indeed committed to an historic goal in pursuing the enemies of freedom, and our men and women in uniform from North Carolina are playing a key role. They are on the front lines every day defending our homeland and spreading freedom and democracy."
Through in "freedom" and "democracy" and you have a good soundbite.

Dole was too busy
thinking about her job as Senate recruiter...and where to shop her resume after she's fired.
Jesus Swept ticked me off. Too short. I loved the characters and then POOF it was over.

I thought David did a nice job
as far as he went in responding to the drivel from Dear Leader.
But we all need to go farther . . .
