Is $70,000 a sufficient way to show appreciation for being appointed to the UNC Board of Governors?
Tillis’s Super PAC, Grow NC Strong, Raised $105,000, Including $70,000 From Three Men Tillis Appointed To The UNC Board Of Governors.
An Appointment To The UNC Board Of Governors “Is One Of The Most Prestigious And Sought-After Appointments In North Carolina Business And Political Circles.”
Maybe $70K is enough, but why not give a few thousand more, just to be sure?
A controversial pick for the UNC system’s Board of Governors backed by House Speaker Thom Tillis gave another $5,000 toward the Tillis campaign effort.
George Sywassink donated $5,000 to the Thom Tillis Victory Committee, a joint-fundraising operation with the Republican Party. It now brings total donations from Sywassink, his wife and his company to $38,000. He earlier contributed directly to the campaign and to a super PAC designed to boost Tillis’ bid.
And apparently what matters most is campaign contributions, not qualifications.
When his fellow Republicans questioned why House Speaker Thom Tillis backed a Democrat to the University of North Carolina Board of Governors in March, the speaker had a simple reason:
R. Doyle Parrish had raised a lot of money.
“I would estimate he is directly responsible for more than $100,000.00 in financial support through personal contributions to my campaign committee and other candidates and through the Hospitality Alliance,” Tillis wrote in a March 21 email to House leaders.
