Wednesday News: How very Trump of him

NEWBY DESCRIBES FELLOW JUSTICES AS A "BUNCH OF AOC'S" AT RALLY: Newby keyed on new Justice Anita Earls in particular, though not by name, bringing up her election last year following a race that drew heavily partisan players and millions in political spending. "I lose sleep at night thinking, what would it be like if we had no one to hold accountable those that want to cause social change through our judicial branch," Newby said. "In 2018, the left put $1.5 million to get their 'AOC' person on the court." Newby's comments were recorded, then sent Tuesday to WRAL News. Newby did not return a message left for him in his chambers at the Supreme Court, but political adviser Paul Shumaker called back, saying the judge was on a family vacation this week. Shumaker said Newby was giving "an example of ideological differences, not direct reference to anyone."

TRUMP AND HIS MINIONS DESCEND ON NORTH CAROLINA TODAY: President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence are visiting North Carolina on Wednesday — the kickoff to what could be a nonstop parade of presidential candidates and their surrogates making their way to the Tar Heel State before the 2020 primaries and general election. Trump will rally supporters at a Keep America Great event at East Carolina University in Greenville, and Pence will join him after spending the day at Fort Bragg. Sen. Thom Tillis, Rep. Mark Meadows and two Republican nominees in special elections for the U.S. House — state Sen. Dan Bishop (9th district) and state Rep. Greg Murphy (3rd district) — are among the local politicians expected to attend. Meanwhile, Education Secretary Betsy DeVos will be in Raleigh on Wednesday. The big-name event is one indication of how important the state — and its 15 electoral votes — are to Trump’s re-election bid.

TRUMP'S BAN ON ASYLUM SEEKERS CAUSING HAVOC AT MEXICAN BORDER: Asylum-seekers gathered in Nuevo Laredo, across the border from Texas, grappled to understand what a new U.S. policy that all but eliminates refuge claims by Central Americans and many others meant for their bids to find a better life in America amid a chaos of rumors, confusion and fear. The policy went into effect Tuesday and represents the most forceful attempt to date by President Donald Trump to slash the number of people seeking asylum in the United States. It denies asylum to anyone who shows up on the Mexican border after traveling through another country, something Central American migrants have to do. In some parts of Nuevo Laredo, migrants continued to trickle into shelters, including seven members of a family from the Mexican state of Michoacán, who fled the shootings and extortions in their violent region and were happy to find shelter even though some had to sleep in the hallway. They hoped they could get asylum because they did not pass through another country to reach the border.

TRUMP SPOKESBOT KELLYANNE ASKED JEWISH REPORTER "WHAT'S YOUR ETHNICITY?": Losing her cool under fire, Conway unloaded on Andrew Feinberg after he asked her to clarify what countries Trump was referring to when he told Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her progressive allies should “go back to where they came from.” “What is your ethnicity?” Conway asked. “Why is that relevant?” a stunned-sounding Feinberg responded. “Because I’m asking a question. My ancestors are from Ireland and Italy,” Conway replied. “My own ethnicity is not relevant to the question I am asking,” Feinberg said. “It is (relevant),” Conway shot back. When Feinberg did not immediately respond, Conway launched a tirade about being tired of Democratic attacks on various Trump policies, including immigration.

U.S. HOUSE VOTES TO CONDEMN TRUMP FOR RACIST ATTACKS: The House, in a stunning rebuke of a sitting president, voted on Tuesday to “strongly condemn” President Trump’s suggestion that four freshman Democratic women of color “go home” — a Twitter broadside described in a Democratic resolution as “racist comments that have legitimized and increased fear and hatred of new Americans.” The extraordinary vote came after an afternoon of vitriolic debate that erupted into a floor fight over remarks by Speaker Nancy Pelosi, which were “taken down” — ruled out of order by her No. 2 Democrat, Representative Steny H. Hoyer. Only four Republicans — Representatives Will Hurd of Texas, Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania, Fred Upton of Michigan, Susan W. Brooks of Indiana — broke with their party to vote against Mr. Trump. They were joined by Representative Justin Amash of Michigan, a Trump critic who recently abandoned the Republican Party to become an independent. Each had his or her reasons.

Poor schmuck. Governor Cooper didn't give him a lollipop so he decides to go full nativist by anointing himself as the chosen one.

Shades of things to come

No doubt conservatives are going to throw great piles of money to get this jackass elected as Chief Justice next year, so get ready for the innuendo-laced barrage of propaganda.
