This past Saturday, Ambassador Joe Wilson came to Charlotte, NC to support Larry Kissell in his second bid to unseat Robin Hayes in North Carolina's 8th Congressional District.
I had not had the pleasure of meeting Joe Wilson prior to Saturday's event and was honestly expecting the man to be just a wee bit of a stuffed shirt. I found instead, a man who is generous, patient and funny. He did not leave the event until he had met each person who desired an introduction, stood for pictures with all waiting in line and signed every spare scrap of paper, every book and every Creative Loafing shoved in front of him. That's quite a chore when the total attendance is over 200 people.
He is engaging and genuine. On Saturday, he didn't look over or through people. Working a room full of excited Democrats might not offer quite the same challenge as shaking hands with - and subsequently staring down - Saddam Hussein, but Joe Wilson is a skilled diplomat and it showed.
Ambassador Wilson drew quite a bit of applause and kept us laughing throughout much of his talk.
I was surprised to hear Ambassador Wilson speak so eloquently about the South. How refreshing when so many others would like to write us off.
The Ambassador had a few words to say about service to our country.
Finally, he had more than a few words to say in support of Larry Kissell, the next congressman from North Carolina's 8th Congressional District.
Here are a few of Momoaizo's photos. The two above are also Mo's.
What a group, eh? We have other group photos. I'll pull them out later.

Woo hoo, Betsy!!!!
I can't wait to watch the videos. Well, actually I can. But I'm going to check them out the first chance I get. Maybe while Huff falls asleep on the couch watching golf . . . or the Redskins . . . or the "Nats".
Thanks for taping it so those of us "unable" to attend can enjoy.

Three true Patriots
in that top picture. Not flashy, just lifetimes of example. Huzzahs for Erdman, Kissell, and Wilson!
I didn't do a very good job
of identifying the folks in the pictures.
Top is obviously Larry Kissell, Ambassador Wilson and the third man is Mecklenburg County Dem Party Chair David Erdman. He's a good egg. :)
The second picture is our wonderful Momoaizo and Joe Wilson.
The group pictures include (me), LeslieH (tan jacket), LiberalNC (far left), scharrison (tall dude), momoaizo, Working for Change (goddess in the red dress), Marshall Adame and Sam Spencer.

Great diary Betsy
Double props to WFC! The place was big enough for the 200 that attended at the same time feeling pretty intimate. It was inspiring being surrounded by so many good dems. Then to be able to speak with and listen to both Larry and Amb Wilson made my year!

..and did you notice
how, even though there was space, people didn't spread out? Everyone stayed as close as they could get to Wilson!

Oh yea, loved it when the oldster started yelling from the back
for Wilson to speak up and he said, "All people over 50 just come to the front". A true Diplomat!

Still on the rec list at Kos
Most of the comments are very positive. Only two dweebs complained about the teaser headline saying it was misleading. I guess they wanted me to dish some dirt. 'Twas no dirt to dish.
