Richard Harkrader is one of (if not THE most) knowledgeable people on renewable energy in North Carolina. I received this email from him today:
As everyone is well aware, this is an important election. With all the attention on the national race, the governor's race has been in the background. I want to make sure everyone concerned about energy knows how important it is for NC to elect Bev Perdue.
The next governor will be appointing 3 or 4 NC Utilities Commissioners, for energy efficiency to become a major resource utility rate making rules need to change, the REPS will need major political support to succeed and off shore wind and drilling issues will need to be addressed. Bev Perdue understands these challenges and is willing to take on the existing power structures to make the necessary changes. She says decoupling and changing our energy economy are important. On the other hand, McCory, a 30 year Duke Energy employee, doesn't get it. In his web site's energy policy section and in his speeches, he promotes the same incremental policies NC has been pursuing for 25 years while we know BIG changes are necessary.
