Dear BlueNC,

I was probably one of the first Sharpe supporters to blog on BlueNC. It all started when Lance graciously agreed to interview Roger for the site. After that, you guys came out with barrels blazing, even as Kissell was at the front of your minds.

You could have ignored the Sharpe campaign. Hell, everybody else did. Instead, you chose to help us out all the way. When you gave ten bucks to Kissell, you made sure to send a few our way. You kept our race front-paged when everyone else cast us to the curb.

Does this sound like a victory speech? Well, in a way it is. Roger Sharpe ran the good race. He pounded the pavement day after day with an all volunteers staff, against an incumbent in a very red district who had a multi-million dollar war chest against under $100,000, and we still came within 25,000 votes of victory.

I feel that you folks here at BlueNC deserve a great bit of credit for that, and I just wanted to drop by and give a personal and very heart-felt THANK YOU.

Sure, our races didn't win in the traditional sense, but the Democrats have expanded their control of the NC legislature and the majority of state legislatures and governships across the country.

We now control the US House and the US Senate. Donald Rumsfeld is gone. Dennis Hastert is out of the Republican leadership.

By making our individual races strong, you all aided in making that happen.

So stay strong, stay committed, and remember, the race for 2008 begins today.

Once again, thank you so much.

When I posted this, I had no idea that the Kissell race was still possibly in play. I've literally been dead on my feet for days, so forgive me for the oversight, and best of luck.

And again, THANK YOU!

its not

its not a 100 county strategy if we dont have candidates like Roger.

PS- A similar situation is why he is Congressman Schuler, so keep your head up and prepare to win in 08.

"Keep the Faith"

Crowbar, you're wonderful

I wish Roger had been on the radar sooner. It isn't that exposure at a site like BlueNC is going to deliver a victory. It just makes it more fun to be able to share, plan, rant etc. I hope you'll continue to post to let us know what is going on in your area. If Roger plans to run again, please tell him we're behind him all the way.

Robin Hayes lied. Nobody died, but thousands of folks lost their jobs.

Vote Democratic! The ass you save may be your own.

Don't underestimate yourself.

It was y'all that got Kissell on DailyKos.
It was y'all that made him a netroots candidate.
It was y'all that got Edwards to add him to his list, which might have played a small role in getting him to campaign for Larry.
It was y'all that played a role in signing up the volunteers that got him the DCCC letter.
It was the DCCC letter that made it possible for him to become Red to Blue.

Without boots on the grounds, elections are lost. But, don't sell yourself short - without you Larry would not have gotten nearly the national attention he did. Look at Roger, another EXCELLENT candidate that was just a little late to the party. Next time we know to start pushing much earlier.

CountryCrats - my thoughts, my blog.

Jesus Swept ticked me off. Too short. I loved the characters and then POOF it was over.

Thank you.

I feel sick that I didn't get behind Roger sooner. I won't make that mistake again.

Thanks for all you've done ... and will do.

Don't thank us.

Thank yourself and remember that its because of people like you and stormbear, that the people like us, throw their support fully behind you.

We did not do anything special. All we did was the right thing for you and the people of your district. And thats follow your lead.

Now gear up for '08, when we turn all of NC Blue in the House, Senate, and who we send to the White House.

Our children need to know that some people fought back, when others collaborated.

Remember: Foxx lost her home county

We were all aware of Roger up here in Watauga County and we worked our tails off for him as well as all our other candidates in this election. It paid off for us in this historically red county. Foxx lost by 1000 votes in her home county! And we had a full Democratic sweep of all seats in all races!!!

Why? We have great county leaders. We had great candidates. We had volunteers. We did phone banking. We did canvassing. We got our signs out early. We had women writing women. We had neighbors calling neighbors. We kept letters to the editor in the paper.

It was the 50 state strategy at work.

I just found this site. I like the idea of a 100 county strategy for the next election. The next time Foxx comes up for her seat, I challenge the rest of the counties in this district to get in touch with the Watauga Democratic Party ( http://www.wataugadems.com ) and let us help you help yourselves. We have a great party up here. If Foxx can lose in her own home county, there's no reason why she shouldn't lose in all the rest of them as well.

Strategic planning

Several election cycles ago, the leaders of the Watauga Democratic Party did some extensive strategic planning. Jerry Meek has written a great manual that Polk county used two cycles ago. Polk didn't win in 04 but, like Watauga, they kicked ass this year.

In both counties, Dems are outnumbered. Strategic planning set them up to be organized, to fundraise for HQ and advertising and a website, to establish regular canvasses and phone banks, and ulimtately to make amazing turnarounds.

And the time to do strategic planning is NOW (or after Christmas!). If you like, contact Watauga Watch folks or contact Jerry Meek (or your state party regional political director). I cannot emphasize this enough.

Enjoy Thanksgiving. Have a great Christmas and New Years and, then let's get to work.
