Blackwater Blues

Lots of interesting stuff flies around in Blackwater Blog World. Here's a good letter from one of the good guys - Christian Stalberg.

Dear Raymond and Friends,

Congratulations on stopping Blackwater West from
establishing operations in your backyard. You all
worked hard and never gave up and it paid off.

We here in North Carolina still have this mercenary
pestilence headquartered in our backyard. There's
still lots and lots of money to be made by them. Their
training of civilian law enforcement and the military
around the world in the use of deadly and excessive
force is ongoing. The unabashed cronyism, warmongering
and contracts continue. Blackwater is well positioned
to benefit from narcoterrorist, border security and
various other global and domestic xenophobic and
imperialist forays perpetrated by the Bush administration.
Blackwater has lobbyists working on increasing its
business, extending its tentacles into anyplace where it
thinks it can make a buck through violence.

Let us not forget that Blackwater has gotten away with
murder. Literally. The Bush administration has achieved
unprecedented immunity, routinely breaking the law and
getting away with it every time with rare exception.
Between Erik Prince's wealth and Blackwater's connections
deep within the administration, Blackwater has enjoyed
the same immunity, up to and including getting away with
murder.

The privatization of battle ready forces like Blackwater gives
the White House maximum flexibility in its reckless and
irresponsible use of military power, allowing it to blur the
lines separating the civilian and military worlds. Blackwater
is all set to serve as George Bush's or a future president's
Praetorian Guard. We live in dangerous times and we are
well down the slippery slope to tyranny and despotism here
in the United States of America. Blackwater will be happy to
hit the streets of Amerika (for a price of course).

Don't forget those of us here in North Carolina and in Illinois
who are still fighting the good fight. Please join our mailing list,
visit our web site. Stay informed and remain involved however
you can.

I wish I hope I want

for North Carolina progressives to rise up the way the OLF families did and lead the push against Blackwater.

Every time I get an update from Blackwater Watch I feel like I'm in some kind of science fiction movie. Terminator V. Only in this case, there's not even entertainment value. Some of our most prescient leaders have warned against the military-industrial complex. That language was later updated to include "Congressional." It needs to be updated again with "mercenary."

Wow, what a letter

impact after impact. need stiches on the bottom of my jaw when it hit the floor over and over. What a writer!

drools wishing I could write like that!

Christian Stalberg is not alone against Blackwater expansion

There is an army of concerned citizens everywhere in America who are standing with those of us who are against the government privatization of our Military and the utilization of private Armies in the so called "war on drugs".

As for me, once in Congress I will make noise not yet heard in Washington over this issue.

Stop the Privatization of our Military.

Stop the Privatization of our Border Patrol.

Stop the Privateization of our Prisons.

Privatization of our Prisons

I can think of at least four dystopic films who central premise is the privatization of prisons.

Imagine the kind of person you have to be to want to make this a reality.

Privatization of our mental health services

was/is the basis of the so-called "mental health reform" that has Easley making such an ass of himself lately.

All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing
-Edmund Burke

Just need language for it by Tuesday.

I've been trying to come up with something for the precinct meeting.

Thank you!

Robin Hayes lied. Nobody died, but thousands of folks lost their jobs.

Vote Democratic! The ass you save may be your own.

No pressure...we could email to all the

precinct captains if we have it in time. One of the candidates mentioned Blackwater at the MCDW luncheon and some people moaned painfully.

No matter that patriotism is too often the refuge of scoundrels. Dissent, rebellion, and all-around hell-raising remain the true duty of patriots.

I think some people would rather pretend they don't exist.

I would rather that the millions spent on them get spent on our men and women in the military - providing them with the weapons and protective gear that they need, and especially the medical and psychiatric support they need when they come home damaged by this god-forsaken war.

Linda, sticking their heads in the ground has been the norm

regarding our elected officials in Washington over the past 6 years. Particularly the Republicans.

Unfortunately, Democrats have been just as guilty as the Republicans. At least the Republicans have the excuse that they are not allowed to think for themselves while Bush is in office.

The Democrats have NO excuse. They have been aware for a few years and, with the exception of David Price, have been silent. Sadly this applies, to a great extent, to even our fellow Democrats who happen to represent North Carolina.

Perhaps I am a bit too critical in this matter.

Not too critical at all

There are certain moral lines that should not be crossed. Hiring mercenaries to fight our wars is one of them.

Heads in the sand,

sounds like Bushites from Bushland
