North Carolina Democratic Party

I'll be there

Driving up Saturday morning. Going to hit the convention, Sanford Hunt Dinner and SEC meeting on Sunday

It's our youngest's first birthday.

So, I will not be going to the convention. Honestly, after what the Senate is talking about doing to our children, I don't think I want to go. I am thoroughly disgusted by the North Carolina Democratic Party as represented by the North Carolina Senate.

Jesus Swept ticked me off. Too short. I loved the characters and then POOF it was over.

That year flew by

but I guess I don't need to tell you that.

I have other committments that weekend.

Family from out of town is coming in, and we've got a production of Rocky Horror to put on as well.

Now that I think about it, I'd rather be in New Bern.

I'll be there

Will arrive Friday evening and leave Saturday evening before Sanford-Hunt.

I'll be there

coming in early Saturday and leaving Sunday.

"They took all the trees and put them in a tree museum Then they charged the people a dollar 'n a half just to see 'em. Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got till it's gone? They paved paradise and put up a parking lot."

I'll be there

But the Sanford-Hunt dinner is the only politickin' I'm doing. Early Saturday and Sunday I'll be tooling around the area taking pictures and (maybe) talking to some folks for future blogs.

Feel like I'm a Mouseketer and should have my name on my shirt..

I'll be there for the whole sha-bang!!!

Still waiting to hear from potential delegates and others interested in running for party leadership positions...I mean, doesn't anyone even have a resolution to submit??

You're disappointing me people, it's action time! ... that's a horrible catchphrase, forget it. How about, to infinity and be-...no, um, where's the bee-...no...oh shoot. Just go to New Bern, people.

Perhaps you missed it

But I asked if you wanted to be one of the big shots ...

Tag back...

And I answered!! :)

I'll be searching on the floor until the last possible moment!!

Saturday, not Sunday

I'll be at the convention and delegate meeting. Then I gotta head back to Chapel Hill. My wife will be gone with one kid, leaving me two more to tend to!

How many of you are willing to

take notes, photographs, video, etc.?

BlueNCTV?

I'll certainly bring my camera and blog at night in my hotel, if other people aren't already doing it.

But I assume if Frank is going, then his pictures/videos will be the ones to see.

"This is Frank Eaton for BlueNCTV, reporting from New Bern. Back to you in the studio, Jon..."

Maybe he can do a video on someone running to be delegate, and do a little documentary on "How to be Elected a Delegate." Or he (or anyone else w/ a video camera, of course!) can ask people there what 2008 means for them, what changes they are seeing in their home county, where they hope the party is going, etc.

Certainly could have a lot of fun with it. Lots of directions someone w/ a camera could go...

...however, there will be no cameras allowed after 9pm...what goes on at convention... :)

But if he's concentrating on one subject

there are so many other things to cover. Please take your camera if you can. I will thoroughly enjoy reading your posts. I went two years ago and fully intended to go this year, but just can't do it.

I don't have a camera of any sort

(it's with the boy in Germany), but I will take notes. It should be interesting.

Perfect!

We need reports from as many points of view as possible.

but more importantly

Where is the after dinner party?

"jump in where you can and hang on"
Briscoe Darling to Sheriff Andy

I'll be running late from the Mobile DNC Meeting

I will be flying in at 12:30 from Mobile to New Bern and will stay through Sunday for the meeting.

Here is some additional information on how the delegates will be elected which I have gleaned fromt he two cmapaigns and party staff: the National delegates will be voted on one at a time with each slot having two nominations.

As an example, if the first slot was for an Obama woman, there would be two nominees. This practice, which is fairly new, leads to the campaigns picking one strong, well known candidate, and one less well known candidate. There will very likley be a "signal" as to which candidate they prefer. I have seen, though, lots of the "non-preferred" candidates win. This is a democracy and it is, and should be, a bit messy by its very nature. If you are running and are not in the "preferred" slot, campaign! The polity will not suffer.

Bear in mind that the delegation must be balanced as to various demographic factors – when there is an imbalance after the Districts select delegates, the balance must be achieved at the State level.

David Parker

David Parker

when will we know who has been selected?

When will we know who are the chosen ones for the two slots? I imagine there are more people interested than slots available.

"jump in where you can and hang on"
Briscoe Darling to Sheriff Andy

Don't quote me...

But there is a delegate selection committee that either has met or will meet this week, and they "whittle" the names down to the appropriate size.

...and I encourage everyone to vote for the non-preferred people (not blindly, of course!). If this is the year of "change" and "new politics," then we need to ACTUALLY change and reject the same-old system...

The envelope please...

The Rules state that: "I.
On Thursday, June 17, 2008, the Affirmative and Delegate Selection Committee meets to review Notice of Candidacy for At-large delegates and alternates and certify to the State Party Chair a minimum of (2) candidates for each male and female position allocated for each At-large delegate, provided that a sufficient number have filed a Notice of Candidacy form to allow for a minimum of two (2) candidates for each male and female position allocated to their preference. In addition, the Affirmative Action and Delegate Selection Committee must assign candidates to a particular Delegate slot to be filled in order to promote the Affirmative Action goals of this Plan."

There is a conflict between whether it is 6/17 (Tuesday) or Thursday, 6/19. I am not certain who is on the Delegate Selection Committee, but they will whittle down the lists to twice the allocated delegates for each slot.

I know that the Obama and Clinton campaign folks have met to discuss how the "balancing" will go. Three or four cycles ago, the Nominating Committee only nominated one delegate candidate for each slot - so this is actually a positive step toward little "d" democracy.

I will try to get the list, but someone "Inside the Beltline" may have a better shot at getting it -- I am not sure who is on the Committee, but that would be the logical source.

Will be there.

I'll be there for the convention, for the Sanford-Hunt Dinner (sponsor), and for the SEC meeting the next morning.

CameraMEN?

Come on, Frank! lol!

You mean camera persons, right?

Unfortunately, I don't think I can make it to New Bern this weekend. But, if I could, I"d be there with camera in hand! ;)

Gender correctness

You know I purposefully used "cameraman" after getting this comment on the Youtube page for my obsessively gender correct BlueNCTV announcement:

maybe 'she' won't be the usual man-hater Blue NC contributor, but an Independent or other.

Ha!

Ignore the wingnuts

I get some really bizarre comments on my YouTube pages too, some of which are out and out hate speech. I try to delete as many of those as I can keep up with.

It's only going to get more heated the closer to Nov we get. Brace yourself.

NCDem Amy on YouTube

It's you "Usual Man-Hater BlueNC Contributors"

That I'm scared of. What's with you people?

Why you got to be hatin' on a man?

; )

lmao!

Right, opposing sexism is "hatin' on a man." That pretty sums up their mindset on that issue.

NCDem Amy on YouTube

I thought that included me...

But not only am I A man, it turns out I'm also THE Man. So...I hate me? ...it's difficult times when you rail against the system that you are very much part of and now represent. :)

Official list of approved delegates is out

The official lists of approved delegates are out and I am not on it. This really pisses me off

For what it is worth

My suggestions, I know these people and suggest that you vote for them:
4 - Bowser
28 - Little
35 - Foxx
37 - Alexander
45 - Cotham

I'll add in a family friend as well:

6. Michael Brader-Araje

And, I second Cotham purely because her mother drove all the way to Chapel Hill to make phone calls at one of my John Edwards phone banks! What a woman, what a mom!

Jesus Swept ticked me off. Too short. I loved the characters and then POOF it was over.

Receives my full support, even though for some reason I'm not on the Convention delegate list ...
