The Board of Elections mess

What is it about the business-friendly McCrory administration that they can't figure out how to manage complex computer systems?

Epic fail.

The outcome of some races may be in doubt, but there’s no doubt about the outcome of this test for the state board. It’s an “F,” which was echoed by Catawba College professor Michael Bitzer, who in a television interview proclaimed the problems an “epic failure.”

Now the board owes the people of North Carolina an explanation of what happened and how it happened, and it must fix the problems immediately, period. If the board and its staff cannot accomplish this, a house must be cleaned. This was an inexcusable problem and rattles the public’s confidence in the system.

The GOP response to this should go viral

State Rep. David Lewis, a Harnett County Republican and chairman of the House Elections Committee, said he was confident that the results were accurate across the state. He called the election night problems a “few hours of inconvenience.”

Screwing up the most basic function of government -- holding elections -- is not an "inconvenience."

Why David Lewis isn't being pilloried for this comment is beyond me.

David Lewis

Has to be the cheerleader for all the NC GOP disasters because he wants to be Speaker.

They don't call him Lyin' Lewis for nothing.

On election night...

I started taking screen caps to make certain I wasn't imagining it. I knew turnout was low, but when NC House 2 had 26 of 26 precincts reporting and less than 3000 votes that seemed TOO low. A few minutes later we were back to 7 of 26 precincts reporting.
Has the early "complete" count ever been explained?

As to David Lewis, I'm sure he was just as understanding when had its troubles. Right?

One explanation I heard for early complete counts

Was that the program marked counts complete after the early/absentee votes were recorded. I think I read it in an article in the Charlotte Observer.

Vote Democratic, the ass you save may be your own.

One explanation we heard for David Lewis

Is that he's a self-serving, lying powermonger with questionable ethics. Although we only talked to his family and neighbors.

Two rules in politics

Rule number 1: Always smile when kissing a baby, even if the baby is taking a poop in your hand. Mom will remember on election day.

Rule number 2: Don't piss off the press by doing something stupid that messes up their deadlines and stories on an important news day even if some of them are throwing mud at you. They'll remember every single day for the rest of your political life.
