Carter vs. Foxx in NC-05: Closest Race in the State!

Finally, some data to back up all the arm-waving, coat tugging and jumping up and down that we in the Carter campaign have been doing since the primary! Brother Tom Jensen from the PPP interprets this week's Democracy Corps poll:

The closest Congressional district in the state is the 5th, where Virginia Foxx leads Roy Carter 48-46. I really hope the DCCC and other folks take the pick up opportunity in this district seriously. There are races on the Red to Blue list that based on the data I've seen are less winnable than this one.

The PPP's own poll showed a ten point spread (51-41) back in July. But now, at the start of the true fall campaign, with multiple daily events across the district, introductory ads on TV and an increasingly attentive media, people are beginning to understand that there's somebody running against Virginia Foxx in the 5th district. His name is Roy Carter, a fiery mountain populist with a long record of service to 5th district families and their children. This guy could win!

Sometimes it takes the word a while to get to Washington, especially when it's coming from a largely rural, inaccurately studied district like NC-05, which the party structure has habitually forsaken since redistricting. But listen up: ROY CARTER IS WINNING THIS RACE DOWN HERE. And he'll continue to win this race until Virginia Foxx opens up her war chest and starts running those crappy $150,000 TV ads in steady rotation on Fox News here in the district.

SHE CAN BE STOPPED FOR VERY LITTLE MONEY. All that's standing between North Carolina and an easy Democratic pick-up in the Congress is this continued reticence on the part of the Democratic leadership--at both the state and national levels--to look at the true dynamics of the race:

-Soft support for Virginia Foxx among republican and unaffiliated voters indicated by low approval ratings for her and the current administration.

-increased consciousness of the economic realities in the district and a desire for change.

-A compelling Democratic challenger who is overseeing an energized, creative, dynamic campaign.

Democratic Purse String Holders: This race offers the most affordable new Democratic Congressional seat in the entire country.

If we lose it this year, it will be far more expensive to win in 2010.

Jesus Swept, so you can come clean.

Wow, I hope this is right

If it is, considering this is a crimson-red district (R+15!) it could mean two things:

1. This is a Democratic wave rivaling 2006.
2. Obama is probably leading here now.

Roy is polling better than the other Democrats in NC-05.

Obama trails McCain by 19 points (PPP)

Perdue trails McCrory by 8 points (PPP)

The vulnerable Republican in NC-05 is Virginia Foxx. That's the race for the party to get behind in NC-05.

5th District Democrats need to be realize that they need to be equally generous with Roy as they are with Barack and Bev. Because quite honestly, come the last month of the election when those two higher office candidates are looking at the regions that are really going to come out for them on election day, the 5th district isn't going to be high on the list.

Barack will cross through the fifth district briefly as her heads across the Forsyth County line on his way to the 12th district from PTI.

Exactly. I want Foxx out, no

Exactly. I want Foxx out, no matter who's replacing her. Roy certainly isn't a bad choice.

New video: Junior Johnson endorses Roy Carter

Just sent to me by the campaign from a fundraiser last night at Junior's farm. Video by Chad Eller.

Look at that guy go!

He is amazing.

Go Coach Carter!

This guy plays well - all over the state. I've had people here in this district (6) ask about him. I told them - go to the website and support him - more Democrats from NC in Congress is a very good thing!

Ok, my donation is on the way...

although it still blows my mind that Foxx polls over 40%. I've been here almost four years now, and still don't understand the thinking. All around me there are factories dumping jobs, or plan to do so. Foxx continually votes with Bush, and against the people, yet so many still will vote for her? WTF! Keep up the great effort, Frank.

Roy Carter...Indeed!

The atmosphere is over-flowing with excitement this morning. In large part to this poll, in large part because of a highly successful event last evening, in large part because we are meeting our fund raising goals, in large part because Roy is energized and gaining more and more momentum every day.
