Dan Forest actually doing something good

From the Asheville Citizen-Times: Lieutenant governor: Teacher screening legislation expected.

Yes, we do need rigorous, statewide criminal background checks for those teaching our kids.

But will the legislation that Lieutenant Dan is suggesting apply to teachers in taxpayer-funded charter schools, or to teachers in private schools that receive taxpayer funded voucher funds?

Email exchange with reporter

I have exchanged emails with the reporter, Tonya Maxwell, asking her to follow up with Lieutenant Dan's office to clarify whether the enhanced screening requirements would apply to charter schools in particular.

The measure of our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who have much; it is whether we provide enough for those who have too little. - FDR

Just an observation:

If we tried to get legislation passed that required fingerprinting before someone could purchase a firearm, so many heads would explode we'd have to shut down the NCGA for at least two days to clean up the mess.

Sadly:

The same is probably true if someone introduced charter schools into the mix, because middle class white people ought to have the right to take taxpayer dollars so their kids don't have to go to school with "those people."
