One of the things I have always enjoyed as a perk of writing at BlueNC is learning about candidates and elected officials from different parts of the state. We have an impressive amount of political talent across the state and it includes people we should consider for higher office. The problem? We don't always shine a bright enough spotlight on these candidates and we don't keep track of them after the campaign season is over. I would like to take a step to change that.
An Invitation to the BlueNC Community
You are invited to write blog posts about people serving in your local government, in the state legislature, or who are members of your community interested in political office. Introduce them here and let us know they should be on the 'Dems to Watch' list.
If you don't want to write a blog post, feel free to discuss these great candidates in the comments below. Use our contact form and send us information on them and as time allows we will write the articles and create a tag so that all articles involving them can be grouped together, making it easier for others to learn about each Dem on the watch list.
It is fine to write about someone already running for office, but this project is about more than campaign promotion, this is about shining a brighter spotlight on people who might otherwise escape notice and it is about helping build support for these candidates or potential candidates before they make the move to Raleigh or Washington.
I will get the ball rolling. In the coming days, I will publish an article on Mecklenburg County's newest addition to the team in Raleigh, Senator Jeff Jackson. I will follow that with a post about a Union County candidate for NC House District 55, Kim Hargett.
Don't worry about taking turns or signing up to post on a certain date. Just jump in and get started.
