What's the BlueNC election night plan?

Everybody dried off and warmed up? As the night progresses, I'll be posting headlines in this space and links to news here at BlueNC and elsewhere. I'll keep this post updated as frequently as I can, but I won't be going into much depth here.

In the box to the right, entitled "BlueNC Returns Threads," I'll provide links to BlueNC threads focused on specific topics: NC-11, NC-08, state races, national news, etc. These will stay on top, so that you can stay on top of the news. And, of course, the BlueNC community will be keeping it live in blog posts and comments.

One more thing: because we're spreading this out over a few threads, you may find the Tracker useful. Logged-in users who click the "track changes" link (in the blue banner at the top of the page) will see a list of threads with the most-recently-updated at the top and a column showing how many comments are new to you on each thread. Reloading the Tracker page is a good way for members to stay on top of comments and updates. (And if you're not a member, why not? It's free, for Pete's sake!)

I'll be back with headlines as they start coming in.

email for a local reporter

From CBS News Election Headquarters in New York...

While we can't talk about individual races, because the polls haven't closed, but if our nationwide exit polls are right, the wind is blowing the Democrats' way .. and it looks like a strong wind.

Here is the big news -- by a margin of two to one, voters told us today they thought national issues were more important to them than local issues.

Here are the numbers -- 62 percent to 33 per cent. That is extraordinary. All politics may be local..but not this time. That is bad news for the Republicans.

And what is the issue? It is Iraq. Nearly 60 percent of the people we questioned said they do not approve of the war.

I caught that on TV scroll

Pretty much confirmed on TV but I'm having to switch back and forth from cable to Teletubbies video. "Teletubbies loves you" - from a reliable source. "Big hug"

What Blount Didn't Say:

The NCGOP is in a schizophrenic tailspin. On one hand you have Art Pope trying to destroy any semblance of reasonablenss and bi-partisanship and on the other hand you have a full-fledged looney bin of theocrats who think saying the Pledge of Allegiance in school is more important than having qualified teachers. So yeah, I quit. The party is in the same miserable shape it was when I took over. I think I'll stop while I'm behind.

PS I really want to see my picture in lots of elevators. Hint. Hint.

Back from voting and taking pics

Still drizzling rain here in Moore County. Went to a couple of precints to see how voting going. At the West End precint where I vote, total of 1699 registered, 353 = Dem / 1108 = R / 238 = Una, I was #471. Stood outside with the poll sitters and talked to people going in. Although there were more people interested in taking the conservative literature, there were a lot saying "No Thank You!" I was encouraged! Went to one of the Pinehurst precints, only Republicans passing out lit. All over the county I hear there is a better turn out than expected and it's raining!

Just heard from NCDP HQ in Raleigh

Two bloggers will be up and running later this evening, one of them being our own Robert P. Just heard from Robert -- NCDP internet is down, so no liveblogging from Raleigh.

And I just blocked the IP address

of a person or program (address registered in Australia, FWIW) who has been hitting our site five or six times a minute looking for nonsense addresses.

WRAL

has an early glimpse into the Miller landslide. 2:1 over the Vermin!

(Probably just early/absentee votes)

Only 1% reporting

Must be exit poll

Indiana 08 first pick-up

CNN calls Ellsworth (D) over Hostettler (R)

Plus Wake School Bonds are looking good

with 72% of precincts in. Here.

This would be a big freakin' butt kicking on the Puppetmaster who has been backing every anti-school initiative in the state.

*flush*

That's the hopeful sound of PuppetMoney going down the crapper.

Casey

MSNBC projecting Casey over Santorum

Amen.

Santorum gives me the creeps more than any single Senator ... even worse than Dull.

6% in in NC-11

And it's 50/50. This is not good for the old ticker.

Shuler 16,499 50%
Taylor 16,473 50%

10% In, Shuler by 2%

Shuler 22,573
Taylor 21,544

15% - lead is growing

Heath Shuler (D) 25,024 52%
Charles Taylor (i) (R) 23,524 48%
Precincts Reporting - 15%

Looks like our judges are doing well

Can't understand why Kissell isn't doing better, he had one hell of a team!

No matter that patriotism is too often the refuge of scoundrels. Dissent, rebellion, and all-around hell-raising remain the true duty of patriots.

Durham DA - Nifong Wins

(WITH 53 OF 59 PRECINCTS COUNTED 89.83%)
Mike Nifong (DEM). . . . . . . . 24,479 48.75
Lewis A. Cheek (UNA). . . . . 19,816 39.46
WRITE-IN. . . . . . . . . . . . . . 5,917 11.78

Nifong will survive his bungled handling of the Duke Lacrosse case.

David Price

Called by AP, no surprise, just good to know

Sherrod Brown wins

CNN calls Brown over Dewine. Another pick-up

I'm here.

The kind folks at the NCDP gave me an intern computer. So, I am upstairs, away from the "action" yet next to the "action". David Price and Dan Blue were chit-chatting downstairs just as I was about to swoop in and give Dan the "We're with you!" speech.

CountryCrats - my thoughts, my blog.

Jesus Swept ticked me off. Too short. I loved the characters and then POOF it was over.
-me

Good for you Robert!

Price is SO kicking Acuff's butt.

Glad you made it

I know that TarGator is there -- run in to any other BlueNCers? (I think I'd pronounce that last word something like "blinkers".)

PJ Puryear is walking around.

Puppet strings

Joe Boylan (R) ........4,819 42%

Manila Shaver (I).......2,734 24%

Gerald Galloway (I).....3,904 34%

Looks like the Puppetmaster may have bought himself a Hairdresser Legislator down in Moore County. This with 50% of the precincts in. Too bad the I's split the vote.

I'm guessing Artie will declare this a mandate.

Rusty Puke

will lose, big time.

Rusty Duke ............ 119,744 34%
Sarah Parker (i) ...... 230,043 66%

With 13% in. Why he even bothered is hard to understand.

Boylan and Pope bought a bunch of voters down here

It's amazing because at the debates, Galloway did much, much better than either Boylan or Shaver. Want to say that the Pilot Newspaper backed Galloway after endorsing mostly Republicans.

Wake County School Bonds will likely pass

This is a GIANT defeat for the government haters, a cause celebre of the Puppetmaster.

Bonds are winning 53 to 47% with 83% of precincts reporting. Thank god.

Lieberman NY OH Gov

CNN calls Lieberman winner

CNN projecting Elliot Spitzer (D) NY Gov
Stickland (D) OH Gov over Ken Blackwell, creepy elections guy.

Dan Blue.

It wasn't a long conversation, but let me just say that he wants what we want and he is happy (smiling happy) to get the support of the netroots. He asked if I had a BlueNC card.....Lance?
