The 4th Annual Gantt-Watt Reception will be held at 7:00 PM on Saturday, July 20 at the Charlotte School of Law, 2145 Suttle Ave, Charlotte, NC. This year's event will focus on honoring the long and illustrious career of Congressman Mel Watt. This will be an evening to remember as Democrats from across the country come together to show their appreciation for all that Congressman Watt has accomplished for the 12th Congressional District, North Carolina, and our country.
The event will be hosted by the Young Democrats of Mecklenburg County (YDMC). "Young Democrats are leading the party in messaging and grassroots organizing and will continue to do so through the municipal elections of 2013 and the statewide and federal elections of 2014," said Young Democrats of Mecklenburg County President Becky Ryon. "Donors who support the Young Democrats will allow us to pursue the democratic ideals epitomized by Congressman Watt and Mayor Gantt."
Sponsorship information and tickets are available at GanttWatt.com. A VIP Reception for sponsors and guests will begin an hour prior to the start of the event.
The Gantt-Watt Weekend is named for former Mayor Harvey Gantt and Congressman Mel Watt, and honors the contributions of African-American leaders and Mecklenburgers to the State of North Carolina. In addition to honoring Gantt and Watt, the Young Democrats of North Carolina will award the Gantt-Watt Legacy Award to a Democrat who has followed in the footsteps of Charlotte's two favorite sons. Previous award winners include then-Councilman Anthony Foxx and Charlotte City Councilwoman LaWana Mayfield.
