JOE BIDEN OFFICIALLY DECLARED WINNER OF GEORGIA: Joe Biden has won Georgia and its 16 electoral votes, an extraordinary victory for Democrats who pushed to expand their electoral map through the Sun Belt. The win by Biden pads his Electoral College margin of victory over President Donald Trump. Biden was declared the winner of the presidential election on Nov. 7 after flipping Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin to the Democrats’ column. Biden now has 306 electoral votes to Trump’s 232. Trump won Georgia by 5 percentage points in 2016 over Democrat Hillary Clinton. Georgia hadn’t voted for a Democratic presidential candidate since Bill Clinton in 1992.

UNCONFIRMED PENTAGON LACKEY TONY TATA IS CONFIRMED TO HAVE COVID 19: Pentagon spokesman Jonathan Hoffman said in a statement that Tata met with Lithuanian Minister of Defense Raimundas Karoblis last Friday. Karoblis has since tested positive for Covid-19 and the Lithuanian Embassy told the Pentagon on Thursday of his infection. "Mr. Tata was tested today and has tested positive for COVID-19 on two successive tests. He will isolate at home for the next 14 days in accordance with Center for Disease Control protocols," Hoffman said. Karoblis also met with multiple senior Pentagon leaders, including acting Defense Secretary Chris Miller, the secretaries of the Army and Air Force and the secretary of the Navy. Each of those officials have been tested since their meeting, Hoffman said. He did not say how those leaders had tested. Tata was moved into the Pentagon's top policy role just last week amid a slate of sweeping changes atop the Defense Department's civilian leadership structure. He had been nominated to be under secretary of defense for policy this summer but his nomination was withdrawn because of bipartisan opposition.

LARA TRUMP AND MARK WALKER EYE RICHARD BURR'S SOON-TO-BE-OPEN SENATE SEAT: Republican Sen. Richard Burr, who is in his third term, does not plan to run for a fourth term in 2022, opening up a rare opportunity for Republicans and Democrats to compete for an open seat in the state. Lara Trump, President Donald Trump’s daughter-in-law, is considering a run for the Republican nomination, The New York Times reported Thursday. Trump, who is married to Eric Trump, grew up in Wilmington and attended N.C. State. She was a key surrogate for President Trump during his reelection bid. In December, she told McClatchy that she could consider a run for Congress in the future. Club For Growth conducted a poll for a New York U.S. House seat and showed her as a strong contender. Trump said she was not interested in that seat. Outgoing Rep. Mark Walker, whose Greensboro-area district was redrawn into a Democratic-leaning one in late 2019, is considering a run for the seat. He did not run for reelection in 2020 (because he lost his gerrymandered advantage), but toured the state throughout the election season.

RUDY GIULIANI LITERALLY MELTS DOWN DURING CRAZY CONSPIRACY THEORY-RIDDLED PRESS CONFERENCE: It’s very simple, according to Rudolph W. Giuliani and the rest of President Trump’s legal posse, but also very vast. China is in on it. Cuba is in on it. Antifa and George Soros are in on it. At least two presidents of Venezuela, one dead and one living, are in on it. Big Tech is in on it; a Web server from Germany is involved (there’s always a server involved). Multiple major U.S. cities are in on it, as are decent American citizens who volunteer at polling precincts. Argentina is in on it, too, sort of. Chicago Mayor Richard Daley was in on it back in 1960, when, according to an unproved conspiracy theory, he stole the presidency for John F. Kennedy, thereby launching an ongoing pattern of corrupt cities stuffing or scrapping ballots. Fifteen minutes later, as he was describing the election results as “a massive fraud,” black liquid began to slowly streak from each of his temples, down his cheeks. It might have been perspiration liquefying his hair dye, or sluicing the black polymer off his eyeglasses. One Manhattan stylist told the New York Times that it might’ve been running mascara; perhaps Giuliani had applied it to touch up the color of his sideburns. One Trump campaign adviser texted a Washington Post journalist as the black streaks inched toward Rudy’s jowls: “Is he deteriorating in real time?” For 90 minutes, an unmasked Rudy and four maskless colleagues — “an elite strike force team,” according to senior legal adviser Jenna Ellis — spun a confusing web of conspiracies that indicate Trump won the election that he lost. A revolution, they said, was at hand. “It is the 1775 of our generation,” declared fellow strike force team member Sidney Powell, who once appeared on Fox Business to claim that an immigrant “invasion” is spreading “polio-like paralysis” among American children. She continued: “Globalists, dictators, corporations, you name it — everybody’s against us except President Trump.”

TRUMP'S NEW YORK TAX FRAUD CASES ARE PROGRESSING, PAYMENTS TO IVANKA UNDER SCRUTINY: Two separate New York State fraud investigations into President Trump and his businesses, one criminal and one civil, have expanded to include tax write-offs on millions of dollars in consulting fees, some of which appear to have gone to Ivanka Trump, according to people with knowledge of the matter. The inquiries — a criminal investigation by the Manhattan district attorney, Cyrus R. Vance Jr., and a civil one by the state attorney general, Letitia James — are being conducted independently. But both offices issued subpoenas to the Trump Organization in recent weeks for records related to the fees, the people said. On a 2017 disclosure she filed when joining the White House as a presidential adviser, she reported receiving payments from a consulting company she co-owned, totaling $747,622, that exactly matched consulting fees claimed as tax deductions by the Trump Organization for hotel projects in Hawaii and Vancouver, British Columbia. The subpoenas were focused on fees paid to the firm on her disclosures, TTT Consulting L.L.C., and represented just a portion of the $26 million, according to a person with knowledge of the matter. The name of the firm appears to be a reference to Ms. Trump and other members of her family. Ms. Trump was an executive officer of the Trump companies that made the payments, meaning she appears to have been treated as a consultant while also working for the company. The investigation has been stalled since last fall, after the president filed a lawsuit to block a subpoena for his tax returns and other financial records. The legal fight is before the United States Supreme Court for a second time, with a ruling expected soon. Prosecutors have suggested in court filings that their investigation has expanded far beyond the hush money and is focused on a number of potential financial crimes, including insurance and bank-related fraud, tax evasion and grand larceny.

We've been working under the assumption

Trump's stacking of the Supreme Court was an effort to help him with Election woes, but it may have been something as simple as protecting him from criminal and civil cases. It would fit his formula of being mainly concerned with his own personal gain.

You could say the same thing about McConnell

We've assumed that Mitch McConnell has been pushing through unqualified nutjobs to the Federal bench for ideological reasons.

But couldn't the motivation just as likely be hoping for friendly judges when certain Senators get hauled in on Federal corruption charges?

Follow the money.

The thing is, it's unlikely to save him.

The charges he faces in NY are not going away and even if he manages to get a slight reprieve from the SC on the subpoenas for his records now, those protections (like so many others) will disappear once he's no longer president and he come under the jurisdiction of state courts in NY. Leticia James and Cy Vance are chomping at the bit to ride rough-shod over Trump and his entire crime family. As soon as he's a private citizen again (i.e., at about 12:01 on 1/20/2021) they'll be filing charges and those will only grow with time. All his stacking of the SC isn't going to save him from the consequences his life of crime.
