In the wake of the Virginia Tech shootings, Neal Boortz stuck his foot in down his throat.
Many of you know that I detest Neal Boortz. Whether it is his assertion that minimum wage workers arent worth the 5 dollars per hour they are currently paid, or the fact that he almost pukes at the term "working poor", I think he is among the worst of the right wing talking heads.
However, after VA Tech, Boortz went beyond simply insulting those who work for a living, and instead insulted true heroes. He didnt just claim that allowing guns in schools would have stopped the incident. That would have been fine, even if I think it is completely wrong.
No. He declared that the victims were wimps and worst because they didnt have a moment like the heroes of Flight 93 did.
Except of course that they did. There are multiple stories of men and women who saved each other. We wont discuss differences between prior warning and what the victims at VA Tech underwent. However, before a single body was in the ground, Boortz was degrading their lives and insulting their families. This diary has a great collection of Boortz apologizing for the statement. And by apologizing I mean using the words "Bite Me" and further degrading anyone who disagrees with him.
Our friends at Raising Kaine have been on top of this from the beginning. Now comes the news that Governor Kaine has condemned the comments. Raising Kaine and others have been working on putting pressure on local stations to stop carrying Neal Boortz. If you support the effort think about stopping by and helping out.
This is a country of responsibility. You take responsibility for your words. True, the government, and those hired by the government, can't persecute you. But you not protected from being fired or censored by your bosses if you say something offensive, and the people are the ones who have to bring this to the attention of the bosses. That sounds free-market to me.
Protest him. Voice your anger. It's how we effect the market, and how we make ourselves heard. --DanG
