Help our friends to the North

In the wake of the Virginia Tech shootings, Neal Boortz stuck his foot in down his throat.

Many of you know that I detest Neal Boortz. Whether it is his assertion that minimum wage workers arent worth the 5 dollars per hour they are currently paid, or the fact that he almost pukes at the term "working poor", I think he is among the worst of the right wing talking heads.

However, after VA Tech, Boortz went beyond simply insulting those who work for a living, and instead insulted true heroes. He didnt just claim that allowing guns in schools would have stopped the incident. That would have been fine, even if I think it is completely wrong.

No. He declared that the victims were wimps and worst because they didnt have a moment like the heroes of Flight 93 did.

Except of course that they did. There are multiple stories of men and women who saved each other. We wont discuss differences between prior warning and what the victims at VA Tech underwent. However, before a single body was in the ground, Boortz was degrading their lives and insulting their families. This diary has a great collection of Boortz apologizing for the statement. And by apologizing I mean using the words "Bite Me" and further degrading anyone who disagrees with him.

Our friends at Raising Kaine have been on top of this from the beginning. Now comes the news that Governor Kaine has condemned the comments. Raising Kaine and others have been working on putting pressure on local stations to stop carrying Neal Boortz. If you support the effort think about stopping by and helping out.

This is a country of responsibility. You take responsibility for your words. True, the government, and those hired by the government, can't persecute you. But you not protected from being fired or censored by your bosses if you say something offensive, and the people are the ones who have to bring this to the attention of the bosses. That sounds free-market to me.

Protest him. Voice your anger. It's how we effect the market, and how we make ourselves heard. --DanG

Boortz's best (worst?) one was his immigration solution

TWO border fences, with (rabid?) chihuahuas infected with HIV in the neutral zone.

ugh

The big question here is how he, Imus and Rush have lasted all these years.

They've lasted

because the only people who listen to them are the ones who agree with them or the ones who think they're funny. The rest of us don't bother listening. Why would we? So until something like this happens, we're just not as aware of these assholes - excuse me - citizens as we should be.

No way

Neal Boortz isnt a citizen of my America. In my America you respect your fellow human being. You believe that every other citizen who has not committed a crime is worth at least the respect of being treated equally.

If you disagree with Boortz (in his world) you shouldnt be allowed to speak. If he thinks that is true I suggest he go buy his own country, cause he obviously hates the constitution.

I understand how you feel

his statements are disgusting. Unfortunately, in my America, he has the right to be an asshole.

I'll let you be in my dream if I can be in yours

I wish Boortz agreed.

Oh we both know he doesn't.

but at least with the radio and freedom of speech, we know who the assholes are. And if we don't fight for the dream, what good is it?

We've got to accept the boils on the butt of America are part of the freedom of speech that gives us the right to converse freely on blogsite like this. It's also what gives us the right to email, call, write the sponsors of shows like Limbaugh's or Boortz. I believe in voting with your pen and your wallet.

I think we Americans...

are obsessed worrying about how "offended" we are and what we're going to do to stop being offended. Perhaps it's trite, but before I go on a campaign asking advertisers to get somebody fired for saying something I disagree with, I'll go on a campaign to ask for help for the people of Darfur.

You make a very good point about priorities.

I don't see why we can't do both, however.

What I sent

Over the years I have been disgusted by various comments made by Neal Boortz. However, most of his comments have fallen under the purview of things that are only disgusting to those of a different political persuasion from Mr. Boortz. Such comments, while annoying, have only prompted me to turn his program off. However, his recent comments regarding the victims at Virginia Tech cross a line of decency that is deplorable. He could have used the events to make a cheap political point, and I would have been bothered. However, he went much farther and not only lied but he insulted every single one of these victims. If similar comments had occurred in September of 2001 he would have been fired before the end of the day. I hope that you will use this oppurtunity to put an end to his syndication. I see that you also syndicate Clark Howard's show. I have never been upset by something Clark Howard has said. However, I will not be listening to his show until either he signs a contract with a new syndication service, or you drop your syndication of Mr. Boortz.
