Joe Killian Assaulted At Palin Rally

Hat tip to Mark Binker over at Capital Beat for pointing me to Joe's blog:

“Oh, you think that’s funny?!” the large bearded man said. His face was turning red. “Yeah, that’s real funny…” he said.

And then he kicked the back of leg, buckling my right knee and sending me sprawling onto the ground.

From my position there I saw the bottoms of a number of feet almost accidentally stomping me to death as the two political camps screamed back and forth, the music continued to blare and some of the Obama crowd moved the large bearded man and his friends away. When I was helped to my feet the bearded man was walking away quickly.

For a moment I considered running the bloated, twelve-sandwich eating prick down and beating the living hell out of him…and then I remembered that I’m a reporter, how much I enjoy being gainfully employed and how hard it would be to keep my job if I got into a fistfight with a guy at a political rally.

What was that you pronounced so self-righteously last night Senator McCain? That you're so proud of all your supporters and won't stand for anybody to criticize them? Or something equally enabling?

Sorry about that, Joe. I'm an old Elon College "dangerous local" myself, and I can guarantee that jackass wasn't from around here.

Comments

I just posted something about this at Daily Kos.

This needs a wider audience, it's despicable.

Jesus Swept ticked me off. Too short. I loved the characters and then POOF it was over.

Good to see this word getting out.

Laura Leslie and RTB have also noted it.

It's despicable. I read Steve's post just after seeing the SNL sketch "Crazy Lady at McCain Rally."

I appreciate the satire of SNL, but the unfunny part is how common the mentality of the fat bearded moron and the crazy lady are.

And the twice-as-unfunny part is how angry a person feels when reading about these instances.

I sent this to the NC for Obama group

Hello BlueNCers,

This is what I sent to the NC for Obama group and to firends I know.

We've seen on TV that these McCain supporters are out of control, now its happened in our own state of NC. According to two respected journalists at the Greensboro News and Record, a McCain supporter kicked him at the Elon rally, for interviewing Obama protesters.

From the reporter: "And then he kicked the back of leg, buckling my right knee and sending me sprawling onto the ground." See the full article here: http://blog.news-record.com/staff/capblog/archives/2008/10/report_from_pal.shtml

Now I don't fault someone for supporting a different candidate than myself, but when you physically abuse someone, that's cross a line. You might also have problems with the media, again fine, but committing the crime of assault is just plain pathetic. THIS MUST STOP. It is this vain that I'm encouraging everyone to fight back, by giving a few hours this weekend at your local Obama office to call voters, canvass, or get folks to the one stop early voting (to vote or register and vote).

Also, let your undecided friends and neighbors know what the McCain campaign is condoning.

Have a great weekend and lets get to work,
Mark

Well, HEY Luv!!

I've been all over a good bit of central NC, hitchin' happy couples and sporting a Vets for Obama sticker on my little blue buggy. 'S'All good. I quietly lead by example... people are loathe to make too many smart remarks (1) to a man of the cloth, (2) a vet, or (3) a big, goateed redneck lookin' thang, no matter HOW big a Dem/Dayum Librul he might be (snicker).

Love to ya, darlin'!

HuffPo picked up the Joe Killian story

Huffington Post has it in big headlines, with a link to Binker's column.

Binker's site is probably gonna crash
