HALLOWEEN MARCH ON McCRORY
Wednesday, October 30, 2013
5:30 PM to 6:15 PM
200 N Blount St.
Raleigh, NC 27601
Sponsored by: Progress NC, NC Women Matter, NC NOW, Planned Parenthood Health Systems, Action NC and NARAL Pro-Choice North Carolina.
Join us October 30th at 5:30 PM in front of the Governor's Mansion in Raleigh to demand that McCrory clean house at the Department of Health & Human Services. COME DRESSED AS YOUR FAVORITE CLEANER AND BRING FOOD TO DONATE TO LOCAL FOOD BANKS. Details after the jump….
DHHS has become a national embarrassment to our state, making it all too plain to the rest of the world that NC's leaders are willing to let its most vulnerable go hungry. Our food stamp program is so backed up that families have been waiting over six months for help, even as their unemployment benefits have been cut off by lawmakers who feel they would become "too dependent on government" ..... our Medicaid program is still broken after more than a year of re-tooling and healthcare providers can't get paid..... We were the only state in the nation to close down a nutritition program for pregnant women, infants and young children because of the government shutdown, and now we're the only state to halt our short-term Work First support program for people with young children. We also let programs for the elderly and people with disabilities shut down... even as we are denying Medicaid expansion and kicking 500,000 North Carolinians uninsured to the curb.... and all this time, DHHS has been hiring inexperienced political insiders at inflated salaries and giving politically-connected consultants enormous salaries. This administration's priorities for North Carolina are all wrong -- and the ineptitude at DHHS is heartbreaking for those who must suffer the consequences. This needs to stop.
Join our march in front of the Governor's Mansion on Wednesday October 30th at 5:30 PM (we’ll start gathering at 5:00 PM). Show Gov. McCrory you won't just sit by while he and other far right lawmakers turn their backs on our friends and neighbors. Come dressed as a maid, janitor, chimney sweep -- whatever your favorite cleaning character is -- and bring a broom, mop or cleaning implememt of your choice. Or just come as you are if you can't swing the costume. The important thing is -- be there! It's time to make it plain to lawmakers that we need to clean house at DHHS -- and we need to do it now.
WE'LL BE COLLECTING FOOD FOR LOCAL FOOD BANKS BEFORE THE MARCH, SO BRING WHAT NONPERISHABLES YOU CAN. THANK YOU!
