2020 DEM PRESIDENTIAL HOPEFUL BETO O'ROURKE IN NC TODAY: Democratic presidential hopeful Beto O'Rourke is making a quick run through North Carolina — a presidential battleground and early primary state. O'Rourke planned "meet and greet" events on Monday in Charlotte, Greensboro and Chapel Hill. The former Texas congressman and 2018 U.S. Senate candidate announced his bid for the Democratic nomination last month. Monday marks his first visit to the state as a presidential contender. North Carolina's party primaries will be held March 3, 2020. O'Rourke's events will be held at Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte, Natty Greene's Pub & Brewing in Greensboro and at the Frank Porter Graham Student Union at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

NATIONAL REALTORS GROUP THROWS BIG MONEY BEHIND REPUBLICAN LEIGH BROWN IN 9TH: The spending could be as high as $900,000, according to media trackers for another national group. The money appears to be in support of real estate broker Leigh Brown of Cabarrus County. Though campaign reports aren’t due until Monday, the size of the Realtor’s TV buy would dwarf the spending of most GOP candidates. The National Association of Realtors has bought the ads, which are scheduled to start airing next week and continue through the May 14 primary. Records show that the group is spending $88,325 on ads at Charlotte’s WCNC. A spokesperson for WBTV said the buy there is $328,000. Those records don’t indicate who the ad’s beneficiary will be. But a document the Realtors’ political action committee filed on WBT radio shows ads will be in support of Brown, though it does not indicate the amount of the buy.

DEPUTY'S SON WHO SET FIRE TO BLACK CHURCHES IN COURT THIS MORNING: The white suspect in three recent arson fires that destroyed African American churches in Louisiana is scheduled for a bond hearing. The clerk of court's office in St. Landry Parish says the hearing for 21-year-old Holden Matthews is scheduled for Monday morning before state District Judge James Doherty. Matthews, the son of a St. Landry Parish sheriff's deputy, was arrested Wednesday on three charges of arson of a religious building. Three black churches were torched in 10 days. Two were in the city of Opelousas. Another was in a nearby town. Authorities have stopped short of saying there was a racial motive. But Gov. John Bel Edwards called the burnings a reminder of past acts of racial intimidation. And the NAACP said the fires were examples of "domestic terrorism."

TRUMP'S "DUMP IMMIGRANTS IN SANCTUARY CITIES" POLICY IS COSTLY, LIKELY TO BACKFIRE ON HIM: “It’s illogical,” said Angela Chan, policy director and senior attorney with the San Francisco-based Asian Law Caucus. “It’s just alarming that they are spending so much effort and so much time to engage in political theater.” The Trump administration has long pushed back against cities with sanctuary policies, which generally prohibit local authorities to cooperate with federal immigration police, often by refusing to hold people arrested on local charges past their release date at the request of immigration officers. Over 100 local governments around the country have adopted a variety of these polices. “New York City will always be the ultimate city of immigrants - the President’s empty threats won’t change that,” New York City Mayor Bill DeBlasio said in a statement. But Trump seemed ready to step up his fight with the cities, vowing to “give them an unlimited supply” of immigrants from the border.

TRUMP'S ATTACKS ON ILHAN OMAR ARE PUTTING HER IN DANGER: “I think Islam hates us,” Mr. Trump told Anderson Cooper, the CNN host, in March 2016. Now, with 19 months until the 2020 election, Mr. Trump is seeking to rally his base by sounding that theme once again. And this time, he has a specific target: Representative Ilhan Omar, Democrat of Minnesota and one of the first Muslim women elected to Congress. “Since the president’s tweet Friday evening, I have experienced an increase in direct threats on my life — many directly referencing or replying to the president’s video,” Ms. Omar said. “This is endangering lives. It has to stop.” Speaker Nancy Pelosi said on Sunday that she had requested a review of Ms. Omar’s security, while Trump aides insisted that the president meant no harm. “Certainly the president is wishing no ill will and certainly not violence towards anyone,” Sarah Huckabee Sanders, the White House press secretary, said on Sunday’s broadcast of ABC News’ “This Week.”

It boggles the mind

how many Americans still not only support but adore Donald Trump. He has raised $30 million so far this year for his 2020 re-election campaign, and while I'm sure a hefty chunk of that came from the 1%-ers, a lot of people who got screwed by his tax scam also gave to him. Bigotry is a big business, I guess.
