Listen my children, and you shall hear
Of the right-wing extremists' irrational fear ...
In the fruitcake that is the NCGA, some of the nuts rise to the top. The NC House recently passed a bill to make sure that Sharia law is not used in our courts, which of course has been one of the most pressing, nagging, significant problems facing our society, and it's high time that they did something about it.
With apologies to Longfellow, this is how we're told it went down:
Listen my children and you shall hear
Of the insidious threat that’s coming here,
On the sixteenth of May, in Ought-Thirteen;
Tin hat wearers had clearly seen
The need for a law to allay their fear.
They said to the House, “If the Muslims try
To usurp our justice court to-night,
Hang a lantern aloft in the highest high
Of the Capitol dome as a signal light,–
One if by Koran, and two if by Sharia;
And we will write into law our idea,
No foreign laws! We’ll spread the alarm
Through every Tarheel village and farm,
For the Christian folk to be up and to arm.”
